What happened to PureBasic lately?

Post by PyroStrex »

Well, I've surf all around the forum looking for PureBasic activities. But i can't see anything interesting since v4.51. Even the Visual Designer 4 is still under development. What happened? I somehow feel the loneliness in this forum... What is going on?

Things have slowed, that's for sure. I used to see tonnes of new posts
here in the past, but lately, when I visit, it's only a trickle of new ones.
I was even thinking that today when I logged in, and my reaction was
"wow, still nothing new to see." Seriously. This is not a troll attempt.
I've been here long enough to make these comments. It was definitely
a busier forum a couple of years ago.

So, what's changed? I'm guessing it's the maturity of the language.
PureBasic is getting very near perfect now. Back in the old times, it
had plenty of things to fix and add, such as thread safety and Unicode
support and so on. All that sort of thing is done now. The latest version,
v4.51, was just a bug fix release with nothing new added. That's why,
PyroStrex, there's nothing interesting posted since then.
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

Aye, so many questions have been asked so many times now that I would guess that a lot of users simply make use of the forum search etc. thus reducing the need to ask questions.

Mind you, KCC alone keeps these forums in business what with his damned insistence on using VB and the 10001 questions which inevitably result!!! :)

I know what you mean!

Personally I have spent much less time in this forum mostly because of personal reasons and I know that a bunch of us who were active here before sadly had to spend more time with the thing called life.

Doesn't mean that we've stopped using PureBasic though, I use it a lot, but I have less questions to ask these days (not a noob anymore) and I'm not much of a online chatter anymore.

Maybe there has not been too many new users to replace us who used to post a lot?
I don't know if PB has les buyers or not these days (I sure hope not) but I don't think this is something to worry about.

I do have some ideas on how to make PureBasic more popular though...
I like logic, hence I dislike humans but love computers.

Yeah, even me. I felt like, Hmm.. Again, no new things in "my most favorite Programming Language ever"'s forum (notice the 's?). It was sad because, I can't even find a really good looking website that talks about PureBasic. I don't know why, but when I looked into PureArea.net for example or any other PureBasic forum.. I felt like I'm in the middle of nowhere. I somehow felt like going to a 90s website. But if you looked at many of sites nowadays. C++ or C forum for example. Everything is emerging including their own website design. I just entered PureBasic community this year and I really felt like. Is there anyone here?. What happened to everyone in this community  . Is the community going to be dead soon?. I really don't want it to happen because I saw a very great potential of this PureBasic Programming Language. But it's not the same as the community. I don't know what to say anymore because PureBasic is really fun when I discovered it this year. I hope maybe sooner or later, PureBasic forum will be busy like the old days.

About the good looking website, do they have another PureBasic forum?.

Oh, about posting the same thing again and again. Sorry. That's why I posted it in the Off Topic section. I don't wanna interrupt anything else.

No Offense to PureArea.net website design because I don't really care about the designs. I only feel like it.

I think back to when 1st joined quite some years ago. I bought a boxed version of PB which I think was around 3.55. (I still have the purple CD & the original box here somewhere too...) The version in now 4.51, so i have been around for almost 1 complete version revolution..

I remember when there was much fuss about the forum getting close to 2000 members. Now it looks more like "Total posts 298690 | Total topics 34961 | Total members 4195"
The community has much more than doubled in size since I originally joined, but no song & dance is made about it anymore. I just consider that this is a sign that the language is becoming a more matured language these days & has enough posts & topics to be a very usefull knowledge base without need to keep repeating too many questions. :)

Really, i don't understand what is the purpose of your rant. What is old ? PureBasic 4.50 was out in june with quite some new stuffs in it, PureBasic 4.51 is a big bug fix release as well and we are quietly working on 4.60 which should bring the usual news. PureBasic is indeed growing, both in functionality and in community, and the fact than there is no more many 'easy' questions isn't a big deal as the forum search is here for that (and as some said, most of the trivial and even advanced questions are already answered, man we got 35 000 differents topics !). No need to be sad about something which just don't exists.
