Re: Need of external game lib

When did they say this?
I have been here for almost seven years and this has been said a few times. It is understandable though as the majority of people are not using PB for 3D games and have no interest in it, so the majority has to be satisfied first. It is kind of like how it keeps being said the Visual Designer will be fixed and improved, but it never actually happens. Not that many use it, so the priority isn't on it.
I know only from one case, and since that PB-OGRE is usable.
You then said:
PB-OGRE is missing some really important features of OGRE.

It seems there is a difference between something being usable and actually being able to make use of it

You have reaffirmed what I said, everybody will use OGRE3D directly and skip PB's implementation. Like you suggest, PB's implementation needs to quit being "updated" (simply recompiled against newer versions of OGRE3D) and actually be upgraded to support more of the features that OGRE3D has added over the many years. If this were to happen, PB could go neck to neck with DBPro and even B3D.

jep 8)
My project has all needed functions i want to implement,
it is playable, but there are to big bugs so i can't release it yet.
My luck is, there are still many features left, so i can wait

Beginners will use a easy to use PB implementation like there is yet.
This would be like B3D. For bigger projects, like i'm doing, there must
be a full implementation of OGRE3D to be able to support as much
as possible.

It's a bit of a catch-22.. time isn't spent updating PB-OGRE because most people don't use PB for 3D games.. and most people don't use PB for 3D games because of the limitations of PB-OGRE.

Fred & Co should (in my humble opinion) take advantage of B3D's death with a strong OGRE implementation and steal it's userbase before they all move onto other languages. PB is a very capable language in all other areas, and a proper OGRE would make it extremely successful, but they have to do it quick.

For me, I'm quite happy using external libs and wrappers for now (N3xtD is reasonably stable), so it's not like a personal request.. I just think it makes sense.

For anyone who doesn't mind putting in the extra work (and figuring out a few bugs), PB+N3xtD can more than replace B3D, but for the general user/beginner.. PB needs a new Ogre.

Call me the eternal optimist, but I do think it will happen... one day :)
Best wishes to the PB community. Thank you for the memories. ♥️

@ eesau:

Glad you like it too ;). The only big problem (for me) with Xors3d and Purebasic is that no one portet the fastimage lib to Pb yet.
I tried once but failed with xCreateImageEx. The lib would be important for GUI´s (like AlbaLynx (see xors forum/sources)).

But i´m shure it´s only a matter of time...

cheers, chi

My only real GRUMP about OGRE is that they require you to use OGRE mesh... I would love to be able to use .X, .3ds as well! Yeah I own UU3d and MS but converting them is a large pain!!!
Binarily speaking... it takes 10 to Tango!!!
