Any shooters here?

Post by GeoTrail »

I've started doing some shooting in my backyard.
I bought a Hatsan mod 125 .177 air rifle about two months ago.
I've been shooting at targets for fun and I think I'm struck with the fever hehehe.

Anyways, just wondering if there are anyone else in the forum that does any shooting.
I have just joined a local gun club and will be starting going to the range two days a week. Planning on getting a .22 LF as soon as the cops approve my application (If they approve it)

great idea - this planet can do with even more violence :?

I think it's better to train ones body for defending, but relying on external tools. Still I understand the joy which comes from hitting a goal.

This has NOTHING to do with violence or defense. I'm talking about target shooting. On paper targets.
Btw, I don't need weapons to defend myself.

That's one powerful air rifle!

I used to fool around with my dad's air rifle before, and now I have a Co2 gun, but I haven't really been doing much serious shooting.

Yeah, that's why I bought it. It's not the most accurate one because of it's high velocity. But it can easily penetrate a 2-3 mm steel plate. I used my old Barbecue for target practice the other day hehe.

I have a Umarex Desert Eagle CO2 gun as well. Big and heavy with blow back system. Fun to shoot but CO2 has it's limitations when it comes to power.

Just ordered another rifle, Hämmerli Hunter Force 900 Combo. It's got a nice looking hardwood stock and a Hämmerli ZF 6x42 scope.

Heya Geotrail,
I still have around 8 rifles & have been a shooter since 1 owned my 1st rifle on our farm when I was 7 years old. ( between myself & my old dad when he was alive, we used to have up to around 18 between us at any given time, before Aus went crazy on the gun laws that is, at which point we got rid of a lot of the 1's we used to get as basic rifles, tune up to target quality & then sell on. )
These days I only use them around the farm to control rabbits, foxes, pigs, etc.
I do still have quite a bit of knowledge buried deep inside my tiny little brain on how to get maximum performance out of a lot of them though. ( Includes lots of knowledge on hand loading of various calibers, as well as glass bedding actions, etc to bring your accuracy levels right up there...)
My still 2 favorites are my old Winchester 9422M .22magnum rim fire & my Bruno Zk601 in .243 Winchester caliber.

I own and use a Winchester Lever Action model 1894c 357mag chambered... it takes care of the snakes and occasional wild Javelina nd feral pig... (Them pigs get MEAN!!!) 8)

Thought about getting a air rifle but the ones here in the USA are pretty lame by comparison... I had a Daisy Red Ryder when I was 11... I loaded the front witth crystal salt and shot my cousin in the butt because he stole my GI Joe... 1960's GI Joe not the plastic fantastic!!!
Binarily speaking... it takes 10 to Tango!!!

Hehe. I've done a lot of shooting over the years. I started with a .22 single-shot and a 20-gauge shotgun. I put a pop can on a steel fence post (I think I was 15 or so) and took aim from about 100 feet. I squeezed off my shot and 1/2 second later my bullet whizzed past my ear from a distance of about 6 inches with the most unforgettable end-over-end blurpitty air-cutting sound I ever heard. Man, I never want to hear that again. I hit the fence post of course, and the bullet came straight back at me. Another time I went flintlock shooting at a local gun club and one of the guys brought his 93-year-old father. His dad took aim at the target, around 800 feet away, from the hip. He said that's how he aims best. Someone asked him a question as he was aiming, I forget just what, and he turned to the person, swinging the gun right past me. It went off just off-center and ripped my coat on the right side but didn't touch me. You wouldn't believe the power of one of those old muzzle-loaders, it's similar to a 50-cal high-velocity round, even stronger. Your ears hurt for several minutes if you don't wear protection. Then another time, in some complicated circumstances, someone shot the end of one of my best fingers right off. But it got reattached and you can hardly tell at all now. It even works ok.

Just a word to the wise my friend, I've been there, done that and bought the T-shirt. (it just has the one hole in the side.) I don't own any guns now and you couldn't get me near a gunrange with a team of horses. You're young, geotrail. That's the one thing time will always cure. *If* you don't get your balls shot off in the meantime

Am I young? Compared to a vampire ore? hehehe
The Hämmerli was suppose to arrive today, guess it'll be coming tomorrow instead.
Oh well, another day of waiting.

.22 LF
Hey Geo - don't you mean a .22 LR?

I've been a fan of shooting sports for many years. I've had many rifles and pistols. I've reloaded my own cartridges and written several ballistics programs. I'd recommend a center fire and getting into reloading. Something like a 260 Remington would be soft on the shoulder, accurate and long range. Perhaps you have access to the very similar 6.5x55mm Swede in Norway?

I go hunting all the time. I really like Venison, so I am always hunting during season. And off season on my own property. I've been shooting as a hobby since I was just a kid. I think the hobby was created because of my dad. I'm also a Forward Observer in the National Guard  (Fire Support Specialist, I get to play with some BIG BIG guns).
