Portal 2 - A big flop?

Post by GWarner »

Anyone seen the Portal 2 gameplay videos that have been appearing on the game sites for the past several months?

Is it just me or is there anyone else that feels that Valve is ruining the game by adding way too much stuff to it?

I look at the videos and can't help feeling that this new game isn't going to be anything at all like the original Portal game that everyone fell in love with. This new game is much darker and sinister. Gone is the simple gameplay mechanics that made the original such a great game. The game I see in the video is so different from the original Portal that it only has a few things in common with the it.

In the end I think this game will be a big flop except maybe for those people that didn't play the original.

I also thought these new glues, lasers, etc. (take a look at the Valve youtube channel) are a bit too much but I also now that Valve just knows how to make a good game - I played Half-Life 2 plus episode 1 & 2 and Portal so far and I really enjoyed them.
Portal 2 will be another great game and finally a reason to buy a new pc ;).

I agree about HL and HL2 annd HL2ep2 (I had a terrible time with the walkers in the last chapter!) I own portal but honestly have never played it...

I maintain that HL, HL2 and its followups are a bit too linear! but FUN!!! 8)

I don undersdtand the need to add complications and elementss... you HAVE to up the game play or just release the SAME GAME!!!
Binarily speaking... it takes 10 to Tango!!!

If you have time and are looking for a game play it!

The first time I saw how these portals work I was very confused but totally amazed (like watching Inception ;))...

Let's get this straight. I too own and have played HL, HL2, EP1 and EP2 and look forward to EP3.

I enjoyed the hell out of Portal, it was a new and fresh game idea. I was easy to understand and play, the charm and humor in the game just added to it.

But all the videos I've seen of Portal 2 leaves me with teh impression that it's an almost completely different game where the only things it has in common with the original are Chell (the main character that you play), the portal gun, and GlaDOS.

I have no doubts it will be a great game, I just question that Valve has added way too much to the game that it will not be as good or as popular as the original was. In the original the primary game play mechanic was the portals, but in Portal 2 there is so much extra stuff you have to deal with that the portals are now only a small part of the game.

Time will tell....Release date: Feb 9, 2011
