Map Editors!?

Post by PureLeo »

Have anyone here used any map aditor like Tile Studio, MapEditor, Mappy, etc???

I've read some posts but thei are very old posts and those old examples don't work anymore...

I got these 3 editors, but some of them just generate BIG complex code and i don't even know where to start from

I just need an example (for any of them) that works and points me to the right direction

thanks!

Maybe this'll help you, if you haven't seen it already. It's for PB 4.31:

Yeah, thats where i read about map editors :)

I've already downloaded that but can't understand well from where to start

EDIT: hm, nice! I've read a bit more and think i understood how it works....

I was almost able to compile my own example, but thecompiler just start to use 50% of my cpu and keeps compiling forever! D:

Anyone can still compile a Tile Studio's example with newer PB versions like 4.41 or even 4.5 ?

I have played with some of them. I got mad and wrot emy own a while ago with extensive help from Demivec! Never integrated layering though... I wass too lazy!

A good map editor tool would be a good tool for PB though! It would assist a lot of people in making 2D games. A 3D map editor would be a good thing as well! Leadwerks has one but I think it was codedin BlitzMax.

One issue is that in 4.4+ they changed the way sprites aredrawn and off screen draws are verboten (I think!)

Did you make your mapeditor public?

For 3d it isn't so important, but for 2d games a map editor is essential

I'm still having issues with these map editors, even when i get no code errors and CAN compile my example, it never open the screen

It was difficult to make it work after PB4.1

They changed the way sprites are displayed on screen. I created a windowed screen and used scrollbars to make the map move... If you searched for Rook Zimbabwe and Editor you would probably find a place to start your code since I left it posted...
