capture avi

has anyone figured out how to capture an image from an avi and save it as bmp or jpeg? i know this was asked a while back but no resolution. i have tried to do this several times, for months now, but no luck. any help would be great.

Is this what J.Baker wants? This is a Library to catch images (BMP) or animations (AVI) from a video capture card, but J.Baker means this probably in a different way:
If you have a displayed movie (AVI/MPG using PlayMovie()), how to grab a frame and read out the pixels/save them as BMP? I faced the same problem.
