ATCsimulator3 - Tower Edition

Post by russellbdavis »

Greetings everyone. I have just begun my transition to PureBasic from Dark Basic. I have been developing my new air traffic control tower simulator in Dark Basic. But, I have had some concerns about using VB for my GUI menu interface, that then calls the DBPro game itself. I was not aware that Purebasic allowed for both GUI interfaces and also provided support for DBPro using a plugin, until now. I am so excited to use PB to complete this project. Although this has set me back a bit, I think the end result will be phenomenal. Plus, being able to develop in multi-platform will only help to increase sales potential.

ATCsimulator3 - Tower Edition is a full 3d simulation of acting as an air traffic controller in the tower position. Here is a screen shot of the current state of the project in DBPro.

This screen shot is showing a rainy day setting using the Dark Clouds plugin with DBPro.

Hello and welcome to the PureBasic forums. :)

Although you didn't mention it specifically, when you say "support for DBPro using a plugin" I suspect you mean PureGDK?

Russell, are you an air traffic controller in real life? Because I want to know how accurate your sim is.

@UserofPure,

I was an air traffic trainee in 1987. Like so many, I did not make it through the screen program (as it was known then). But I developed a love for the industry which landed me jobs with Boeing and McDonnell Douglas as a programmer in Flight Crew training programs. I went on to release my first commercial simulation called 'ATCsimulator' in 2001. This new venture will be the 3rd installment of this series. ATCsimulator and ATCsimulator2 are radar simulations of ARTS-IIIa and STARS equipment. It is used in college curriculim all over in the country at universities such as Purdue, Audburn, Middle Tennesse State, North Dakota, Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach Florida and most recently Indiana State University. ATCsimulator2 has also been used in research at MIT. More info about that product can be found at www.atcsimulator.com

This new sim is using 3d from the position of the tower controller instead of a radar screen. All of my work has been developed from actual photos of the equipment and professional training and training manuals/materials.

So, in answer to your question, my expertise on the topic of air traffic control has evolved over the past 22 years.

Cool, that's what I wanted to know. :) Because I didn't want to waste time with it, if the app was more based on imagined game instead of reality.

Hi Russel,

great that this is happening to / with PureBasic. Like you I cut my teeth at Doc 4444 and Annex 11 (all of this in the early eighties...). From now on I'm tracking your project...
