I'm doing a PB too.

Post by Kale »

It's suddenly dawned on me i no longer like using Basic. So i'm doing a PB and moving on.

Like him, i'm sure i have my enemies here and i'm never one to admit i'm wrong, i'm very strong minded. I like to argue and love to the thrill of debate but i feel i'm probably always coming across as arrogant. Oh well, i've never been understood by many people. I feel people here should open their minds to more languages and better practises.

I'm going to respectfully fade away as i feel Basic is just too simple and constraining. Yes, i agree you can produce any software using a Basic dialect but by christ it's a chore! I love OOP! I have for many many years, it started by using Python in the ninties. To me Basic, any Basic, not just PB, seems so old and so cumbersome that i can't understand why it's still around. I understand that very religious communities always build around Basic dialects, which usually consist of young beginners, hobbiests or nostalgic old fodders. To be honest, i think i've moved on.

I've been involved with PB since 2002 and i've seen it mature into a great little language. But i'm never satisfied with it. The 3D engine could do with some work or more datatypes should be added, etc... It's not mine and i have no say over it, i should just move on if it's winding me up. I do love the small exes and fast compilation though, the speed is great, but for serious projects you need OOP built-in from the ground up, period! Like Fr34k said, tacking it on is silly at this stage and i agree.

Anyway, i may lurk from time to time under a new name just to search and stuff but i'm gone.

you can kick me now.

Oh my, I didn't know my projects weren't serious. Better not tell my boss :P

Sad to see you go though, your book was great and you were always helpful. Do drop by sometime, even if it's just for nostalgia!

Ok this is silly now. Can a mod please ban people from leaving please? ;)

It's a shame that you are going. I agree that good OOP languages (.net, Python) are really something special, and they are a joy to code in. My beef with them is what PureBasic does very well - compiles to executable code, and I can do it across different platforms. If Python or .net came with proper cross platform compilers, I know I would use them in a heart beat. Which is why I'm keeping an eye on Vala at the moment. :)

Still, good luck, and I hope that you make your way back here. Crawling and sniveling for forgiveness

A long "good bye" post is not a technique used in "fading away" ya know :P

Good luck on your new ventures and have fun doing it too. :-)

What the hell is going on now?
Kale and PB (two Top-guys) are gone, a german user wants to accuse another user...

Why are people so super-sensitive? I don`t get it.
Different views...who cares?
Sometimes the wrong words are used, when arguing...who cares?

But I think, this is still the nicest community :-)

:(
All of that for this bloaty and not-so-nice OOP ? There's new programming paradigms (better than OOP, even if it could be cool!), but all of them rely on processors and machine code. With PB, we're so close to that! You'll miss it, believe me :)
