Gratulations, seems to be all here again, threads and user :D

Maybe you can tune the logo color or the header background later on, this blue/blue combinations hurts

Love it (or about time really), one issue with the sid thoug

Post by Rescator »

Fred/freak, could you guys move to cookie session rather than sid sessions, putting the session in the url is considered deprecated these days, makes copying a link a pain (has to remove the session id unless you want somebody else to potentially become you... when you paste a link somewhere)

PS! Make sure the cookie domain is set to: .purebasic.com (please note the leading dot)
Oh and maybe a url redirect from forums.purebasic.com to purebasic.fr/english/ as two different domains can't share the same cookie.

Other than that, I love it.

Tip! For those not familiar with phpbb3, the focus is the content, the posts themselves, hence why by default the avatar stuff is on the right, out of the way.
To better improve readability and flow of threads please make sure that wehn you reply to a post that you also edit the subject,
see the subject of this post for example, it is a mini summary of my reply allowing people to quickly read the subject and decide if they should skip this post or read it :)
If everyone make sure of this then the flow on these forums will improve ;)

Hello,
unfortunately, I do have quite some difficulties with differentiating blue-in-blue-coloring and various other inconveniences (I started to note down). (e.g. the gray surrounding on http://www.phpbb.com/community/ makes it immediately easier to distinguish the sight)

Trying to figure out if one could design a different styling I've just discovered that one can have a look at already existing styles and I quickly found several which could solve a lot of these problems immediately. Maybe we could select (adopt) from there another two alternative styles?
have a look here: http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/

regards ~ Vera

(take care: links don't open in new tabs at the moment
edit: use middle-mouse-button, - thx Kaeru :) )

Actually, urls not making a new window is correct.

Post by Rescator »

The standard way of linking is that clicking a link takes you there, popping up a new window or tab when clicking a link is basically overriding user choice.

All browsers should have features that let you do this, with Firefox for example I click mousebutton 3 to open urls in new tabs. Wanna know why? Because in the past so many sites and forums used to pop up new windows, so using MB3 ensures they appear in a tab instead.

Unfortunately not in the French (1 style) or German forums (2 styles, but subsilver2 is there, so it's ok).
Or am I missing something ?

First thing I did is I went to my profile settings/board preferences and changed the theme to subsilver2.
My avatar got lost after the update, had to search my whole harddrive for png files to find it again

I'd appreaciate that ~ and supposing that the user-infos would switch to the left side again in unlogged view as well (?)

I think the subsilver2 style should be the default for the 3 forums. And maybe the "PureBasic" logo should be shared across all the forums.

Rescator is correct about the cookie/session stuff. That's really important.

@Fred : hitting the 'BBCode' link doesn't bring up a separate help window anymore but destroys what you are doing! :D

Kale wrote:I'm sorry but the new forum software makes reading the forums a lot more painful. None of the built in themes are very pretty and/or user friendly. This forum now looks ugly and horrible, unlike the old elegant and simple format. I don't like it. And i personally think it will drive people away. Time will tell.
I totally agree. The default theme is messy. With all themes, it's very hard to read the text. In some places the contrast is less, and everywhere things are cramped together with no space. The font in code tags is too small.
personally, I'm more interested in the information and assistance the community provides; a change to the forum's décor doesn't change that, in my opinion.
So it's not important that you actually read the text without squinting?

Me too.

Yes, the "subsilver2" style isn't actually subsilver2. The colours, fonts and spacing (that's about everything) is different. Less contrast, smaller code font and less spacing makes everything harder to read.

I went through the themes in the theme demo, and the most readable theme is "Envision", except that the code tags are unreadable due to their weak color.
These themes are quite readable too:
fisubice2 (readable even in code tags)
xand (several colours)
