Interesting your comment of science computer, Cell processor and PS3. Of course many universities has a grid/farm/cluster/blade... of "standard" computers but OS is a litle bit hacked for add the performance of all of them, isn't it? So is a niche market.

On the other hand there are DSPs of 32bit with more performance than other 32bit processors and lower clock speed but they are designed to digital signal processing as its name say. Speed as size is not the most importang thing, data and address path width, cache feed algo and pre-loading possible nexts instructions... are also very important in the performance of processors.

Hehe, nice.
Well, what i meant is that today, even it is a separated market, the hardware tech is near the one we can see in any computer store. There is no different nor more advanced.
