For everything that's not in any way related to PureBasic. General chat etc...

Chess 2 kings or just 1?

Post by Kaisen2100 »

Again ... i am talking about chess.

I am creating a chess variant but i have little questions.

The game is played in 2 boards, 10x10 each one, and i am thinking in using 2 kings per board per player (2 white kings, 2 black kings) ... what ou think? ... (it will have 2 queens [2 white queens and 2 black queens] too ... may be)

the players can must win by meting at least one king in each board ... but the one that mates more kings will win ... :)

or , if i use just 1 king per board per player (1 white king and 1 black king) the player wins by mating both kings (mating one king on each board)...

what you think? you like the idea of having 2 kings per player, per board? ... just think about making a "double-checkmate" (yes it is possible mating 2 kings at the same time ... it is like a fork but a lot better!)

EDIT: ADDED SOME CLARIFICATIONS ... WHEN I SAID "1 2 OR KINGS" I MEAN 1 KING PER PLAYER PER BOARD OR 2 KINGS PER PLAYER PER BOARD.

I would suggest one King and three Hetmen (Queens)

200 tiles is a bit more than 3 x 64, so you would need more than 16 Pawns each side anyways...
oh... and have a nice day.

i will use 30 pieces per side in each board. 30 black + 30 white in each board ... but only 10 pawns ...

it will be 2 rows of pieces (normal and new ones, 13 different pieces total) + 1 row of pawns ... (per player)

10 Pawns per board? so 20 in whole, more than 16 what would be 2 normal sets.

but if you want to strictly separated boards, you sure would need two Kings.
... I thought you're planning some 3D-thingy, to let pieces move between the boards.
oh... and have a nice day.

it will be 20 pawns per board 10 black and 10 white ... 40 pawns in total (2 boards). And it will use 2 separated boards and some (several) pieces will travel between boards ... but "in a way that you've never seen it before" :) :) :D

You gotta have at least two kings per board, else one of the players can't win.

As a chess player, there a are a lot of draws in the tournaments and a lot of people try to find solutions to that problem (lot of discussions on chessbase.com)
If you try to define a new board game (or a variation of chess), why not to have 2 kings...the other side can attack one or the other of the opponent, maybe both sides will fight and games will be amazing !

that was a simple remark !

Maybe it would be interesting to have a king and a prince. So you might only have 1 king, and if he is taken then the prince takes over as the king as long as it's still in play. I think that would really open up the strategic possibilities, both protecting the king and prince and maybe even allow the prince to move 1 or 2 spaces instead of just 1. If it was a board game, I'd have a little crown that you can swap between the king and prince :D.
