I'd like to code a raytracing library. Interested?

Everything else that doesn't fall into one of the other PB categories.

I'd like to code a raytracing library. Interested?

Post by Hades »

Hi!

After some time without coding (again!), I need something to motivate me.

Since the raytracing demo in this thread, I've made some improvements, but then stopped completely, because I simply lack the art skills and imagination to create something really interesting with it. And without some goal it's no fun to code at all.

If some people here would be interested in helping me to create a raytracing lib, I'd be really happy. :)
It's mosty about testing the lib and giving feedback, maybe coding some small demos with it.

Helping me to document those functions would be very welcome too, as I am no native speaker of english language (and hate writing docs, even in my native language :) )

Also I haven't coded a single library yet, so I might need some tips/help there too.

My focus will be on speed, but without compromising usability or quality (too much).
The main target will be realtime demos and hopefully games, but I will try to make it scale up to really high quality for faster hardware or higher rendering time.

Thoughts?

It would be crazy to say no! Raytracing is really interesting! All the knowledge involved would be useful. Where are you from? Do you contribute to the ompf forum you're talking about in the other thread?

I'm From Germany. There are a few older posts by me on ompf, but nothing interesting.

The guy to search for is Phantom with his Arauna Raytracer. Some students of him are creating a Pirate game with Arauna right now. Looks interesting. :)
