as garretthylltun said earlier, why not use gmail with Thunderbird.
It seems that most folks objections to google mail is the lack of discrete folders, but with Firefox as your email client, you get folders, message filters, a 2nd line of Junk Mail / Spam detection (in addition to the controls google already have)

Gmail + favourite e-mail client = perfect, but I can not use that combination, because a) I need to check my e-mail wherever I am and b) with the luxury of having virtual folders to put e-mails in.
Carrying my own laptop with me is not an option, because a) battery life is *very* limited for my working hours and b) I guess there are no usable mains power plugs in libraries.
Of course I could invest in a PDA, but I am not willing to do so, because a) mobile services for continuous data exchange are very expensive here and b) here are no Wi-Fi hotspots (or at least in the places where I hang out)
The idea of e-mail I think is that you can check it and compose messages wherever you are and whenever you want so you are not limited to a certain place like your home. Therefore I simply can not use an e-mail client.
Please, I know stuff that's this simple works great for you guys, but I really need the freedom to do everything the way it should be in my vision. Does anyone have any idea about what I should do? I have already tried some popular e-mail services, but can't find "the one". I don't have great demands. In fact I have very simple demands and to narrow them down to bare essentials, then I need just around 100MB space, virtual folders and no advertisements. Of course a great and usable interface is great to have, but configurability should be high. It's my e-mail anyway so I want to use my account as personally as it can get. Do you still think this is too much to await from free services? I don't if you consider how many great advertisement free web hosts there are, which provide excellent uptime and reliability. Web hosting just isn't what I am looking for, I want that small tiny bit of the cake that is usually associated with web hosting plans.

I personally don't want a free e-mail service because most credit card fraud is done using free e-mail addresses so if you use a free e-mail address:
- Places like eBay and PayPal make you go through extra verification to prove your identity
- Some e-commerce services will automatically put your order on hold for manual fraud review which can take 24 hours
- And some e-commerce services will refuse your order entirely
