Dark Game Studio announced

Post by Mistrel »

For anyone interested in game development have a look at Dark Game Studio:

http://www.darkgamestudio.com

I'm in the process of updating PureGDK to support the latest version of DarkBasic Professional. All of this power can be yours in PureBasic. :)

I bought "Dark Basic Pro" five years ago, because it called itself a "3D Games Creator"
it turned out to be a lousy texteditor without any content editors.
costed 120,-€ back then.

I was more than disappointed, I was set up and angry!

now they want another 35 bucks from me to finally give me what they promised me back then?

pah!

... if you fool me once, shame on you.
if you fool me twice, shame on me!

may DB stay where the pepper grows!
oh... and have a nice day.

If you still own your copy then you're entitled to the latest update. Updates are always free. :)

DarkBasic Professional has come a long way since it was released. You can't judge what it is now based on impressions from five years ago.

To enlighten you with a new perspective: the modern IDE is much more advanced than what you remember and supports plugins, pre-compilers, and runtime debugging:

TGC has created the game development tools "FPS Creator" and "FPS Creator X10" using DarkBasic Professional. They have partnerships with NVIDIA and Intel to promote the features they support through DBP such as shaders and a multi-core engine (multi-core is featured more in the X10).

Have a look at the Inca Pro demo for an excellent example of what can be created with DBP. There are additional libraries for light mapping, AI, and physics (free and commerical).

http://www.leadwerks.com/files/IncaPro.exe

Also consider that you don't have to use DBP as an independant product. Just imagine what you could do using the 3D engine as a library for PureBasic.

Have a look at the newsletters for more information:

You bought DBClassic 5 years ago, this is DBPro, a very different and more powerful language that has developed solidly over those 5 years both by TGC and third party developers plugins.

It doesn't come with content editors, but there are lots of free alternatives that are supported, like the newly free Truespace7 - plus tons of user created editors, examples, tutorials etc.

It's a great game creation language with no license fees, just don't expect to be pampered like you might with platforms like Torque.

You can also expect to pay a lot less for Dark than for Torque:
Torque licensing
For Indies $295
For Commercial $1495
I'll take DarkBasic over Torque any day.

I have a lot of great things planned for PureGDK. A lot of it will be under the hood like bug fixes, optimizations, new error handling routines. And every command will be threadsafe-- not even DarkGDK has that!

So what would be the point of buying any other package by itself and not get this...? Is there something I'm missing or is it really this cheap on their site

The advantage is more for less. It's a money-saving bundle.

Because of your mismanagement? ;) (Sorry, you walked into that one).
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

I feel the same.
I'm now using Pb and want get back to 3DGC or whatever it is called !

PB is really more powerful. The only dab point of PB is the 3D (I don't use it) be can be solved with other 3D engines or maybe dreammotion.

So I'll never pay or use again 3DGC and I've already sold it.

I have tried Dreamotion3D a little bit, and what i can say is really powerful and easy and understandable.
I can not compare it agains much more engines but only with PB 3D stuff and in my own and short experience Dreamotion3D is more powerful than PB 3D, and even more easy imho.

You're comparing apples to oranges.

3D Game Creator is a point and click game creator that offers very little in the way flexibility and customization of the game you create.

DarkBasic is a full programming language that focuses on writing games. Like PureBasic it is extend able with plug-ins similar to PureBasic's user libraries.

The two programs aren't even in the same league.

3D Game Creator can't even be compared to FPS Creator which a similar product but with far greater abilities including a scripting language to create or customize game events or actions.

Compared to DarkBasic and Pro or FPS Creator, 3D Game Creator is junk, IMHO.
