2D gaming: I'm confused.. please help me!

Post by ale870 »

Hello,

I'm a little bit confused about the way I have to follow to make my game, but I not yet know PB very well, so I cannot find the right way to proceed.
In fact...

1) I decided to use Purebasic since I'm a programmer and it seems it offers many functions to make a GOOD game (good application in general).

2) I need to make an original 2D engine with physics (Chipmunk? Not yet decided), and it seems it has a good support for 2D graphics. the problems is many people make wrappers for other 2D game engines... so my question is: is PB 2D engine enough good for 2d games, or I need to take a wrapper (HGE, PureGDK, etc....).

3) I need to manage 2D physics, and some people talk about box2d, other people talk about Chipmunk, etc... can you suggest me the right way? I
need to simulate even vehicles, ragdolls, water, etc....

I need an help to choice the right tools.

Thank you for your help!!!

I really think Purebasic is a very good choice for 2D games. For 2D physics, I do prefer to use my own functions, but PB allows you to use 3rd party libs if you prefer! That's powerful! If you need special functions, just search on this forum; eg. for 3d sprites, there's some tips to transform them. The best documentation is on codearchiv in the examples, and in the forums.

At this time, I'm playing with ogre, and it's fun!

My only problem was I'm afraid that if I use a specific command, I automatically "eliminate" the possibility to use other features.

How do you find the "feeling" between ogre and PB?

For a 2D game and for now, restrict yourself to PB only commands (sprites+sprites3d). You'll see that they're powerful enough to achieve terrific results (see our games, especially lethal judgement). When you'll be more confident, try others libs and ogre, but not at first or I think you'll be disappointed.
