Bug tracker

Got an idea for enhancing PureBasic? New command(s) you'd like to see?

Hi,

what about something like a diary (no daily report)?
It would be great, if you let us know, how the work is going on...

Just a few words would be enough:
e.g. next release is coming closer, we try to implement...., bug xxx sucks, .... something like that.

Let us know how this plays out for you.
Dunno what Freds plans are concerning forum updates, but this could be a good
solution with not much overhead.

I have been thinking about starting a blog or something for a while, but i fear
i won't be writing that much after all and i don't want to create another one
of those dead blogs that nobody reads and nobody posts to :)

I will let you know. All looks ok with it all at present, pretty easy to setup and fits in well with everything - no bugs reported though! ;)

With regard to overhead, I use DreamHost to host my stuff - it costs $110 or so each year for virtually unlimited bandwidth - I don't understand why overhead is a problem. I think that FastHosts also offer a cheap unlimited plan (I think SRod uses them)... :?

With regard to blogs, I have been thinking of doing one too - they appear to be a good source of income if you place a couple of google ads on them (providing they become popular).

I've placed ads on my forum (not many - just here and there) and already they have generated income. I use a phpbb3 mod to do this and it becomes part of the admin of the board. I use AdRoll to do the ads with google as a backup (see AdRoll for more details on what I mean). :)

I meant overhead in time to manage it (compared to the current solution), not bandwidth usage.

Ahh I see. It is a different part of the board so it would be like another place to look. I'm looking for a mod that posts an email to admin when a new topic has been created in a particular section of the forum - or an unread posts list or something. That would make things easier I suppose.

Hmm! Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't phpBB3 support forum subscription/notification?

I don't think it does, maybe I'm wrong though - just looked thru the options, can't see anything to enable it.

This seems to be (at least) one step to the right direction - as I understood it, the PB team has a lot of work and don't want to start a new project, so the forum will be the tool for tracking bugs in the (near) future...

So at least (some additional) rules how to enter a new bug, which minimum testing should be done before, which information (in what manner) should be given - eventually demonstrated by an example would be a help for all...

Sorry, but I really have to bump this.

A bug tracker is a *must have* for every professional software that has lot of user feedback and PureBasic definitely belongs in this category. Then you also don't have to remind us all the time (a quick search for fred's "don't bump" replies in the bug section ;)):

http://www.purebasic.fr/english/viewtop ... 88#p261288
http://www.purebasic.fr/english/viewtop ... 58#p197258

I mean you know that you have to go this way some day. So why not today?
A possible (you don't know if it will be like this) lack of bug reports isn't an argument, compared to the gain of usability (browsing the numerous reports is a pain), clearness and professionality (a beginner could even be confused of all the bugs being posted here)!
If any of you native English speakers have any suggestions for the above text, please let me know (via PM). Thanks!

I love the blog!

The only thing, which I think, is missing: A roadmap :-) ...could be very useful for new projects, if we know, what will come...

Frankly, for me as a user the current approach is fine. So IMHO Fred should use the approach he likes best :-)

bug tracker, wiki, ticket system, etc.

Post by HanPBF »

I wonder why these things are always wanted and no one simply does this!

I tried many times establishing a wiki system in my office and for all colleagues; but those things must come from the community/the people.
Everybody can build a fan page for PB and everybody can build a wiki, host a bug tracker, etc.
At least for the wiki or fan page, PB team can not veto it.

The problem is not the initialization of such social networks, the problem is "keeping them alive".
And maintenance costs.
