A request for the forum

Got an idea for enhancing PureBasic? New command(s) you'd like to see?

A request for the forum

Post by Psychophanta »

Is it possible to disallow users to edit their own messages until they have 3 chips or so?
This would avoid some kinds of ungrateful "removed" like messages and topics, over all in "tricks&tips" or "General Discussion" sections.

@Psychophanta: wouldn't that have unwanted side effects? Novices would not be able to correct their mistakes until they posted enough messages. That would seem to get them started off on the wrong foot in using the forum. When did you start editing your own messages? At 3 chips? 2 chips? or 1 chip?

Your suggestions is the most reasonable one I have seen yet that deals with this issue but it still seems incomplete. I agree with you that some messages should have some permanence, especially if they're useful. I just don't think you can make someone do something (whether it is considered right or wrong). The only kinds of things that should be limited are those that cause harm to other's messages or threads (like going OffTopic or the like ).

I'll refrain from any futher comments and wait to see how your request is received.

I started at 1 chip, but I see his point about the REMOVED stuff... Hard to search for deleted stuff...
Binarily speaking... it takes 10 to Tango!!!

-1 from me.

I *always* screw up my posts. This is what I go through *every* post:
  • Type it
    read it
    change it
    preview it
    read it
    change it some more
    post it
    read it
    swear a lot
    edit it
    change it.

Yes, agree it would be a not very good solution, but then looks like there are not a good solution to avoid that.

I think this is a good idea too. I think there is a phpbb mod that does this.
