Any decent tutorials or examples to learn from?

Post by theforeshadower »

Hello, I've been looking for some decent tutorials on PureBasic on game programming...Anyone know of any sites? I already know about the site that has like a huge database of examples but most of them are like in German and are not tutorials just examples... I am looking mostly for the 2d aspect of PureBasic, nothing really 3D.

I already know some C++ and I thought about giving PureBasic a try, becuase from reading the "help" file, it looks a lot simpler way to make a 2d game than having to download SDKs and other crap for C++ to do games.

Did you see the GAME PROGRAMMING Forum?

Cpl Bator has been working with BOX and adapting it for PB, Chimpmmunk is being activley ported as well.

HGE was looked at, but it was written in VC++ and is difficult to unravel.

There are many LIN and DLL files that can be threaded in to PB very easily.

Flaith has several good examples as well.

If it is in a language you don't understand, see if anyone here can assist you.

Good luck!
Binarily speaking... it takes 10 to Tango!!!

I did see it...lulz.

Mostly I see pther's WIPs or problems...I am starting from square one not already into it.

I found one tutorial from another site that is helping but it is a source file with comments, not a true tutorial.

Are there any tutorials using PureBasic's built in commands without using other libs or engines?

Hi Mate,

There was a book written, not sure if it is still available. It covered an earlier version of PureBasic though (and pure has come a long way since then):

http://www.purebasic.fr/english/viewtop ... rogramming

Paul of realmedia has released source for some games, they are small but they handle the basics and would be great for learning from:
http://www.reelmedia.org/cgi-bin/PurePr ... ser=&pass=

You will also find a great deal of stuff at PureArea - download the archive if you can:
http://www.purearea.net/

Also scattered around the boards there are 2D games and concepts. Hopefully others will post some links here to their games or to known games with sources.

Grab some of the games, mess around, and bring your questions back. The gurus here will help.

Welcome aboard, and I hope you have success.
