Partly it's because I like the same basic setup at work as at home and I don't have room for another 19" at home. Stuff like, both are XP pro, classic mode, two layers for start bar so I can fit most of my common apps in the quicklaunch (2 rows of 10), same version of MSoffice, same split keyboard, stuff like that.
Although, I use a mouse right handed at work and left handed at home... that's kinda weird I guess.

probably getting close to the point where it's cheaper to learn to fly real planes!

Funny.
Virtual Desktops are a "must" on nearly every Unix/Linux Box.
And I really miss that feature, when I have to work on a Windows-PC.
Even with 2 Monitors I NEED multiple desks on Linux.
- Work (programming, writing, drawing)
- Web (Firefox, FTP, SSH, Email,Chat)
- Sys (Apt-Get, Konsole, ps, tree, powertop)
- Misc (Filemanager, mp3,...)
But it took me a while to get familar with. But now I really love it!

For Productivity i use 2 TFT Widescreens for the general desktop ( right usually holds the not so important stuff or the manual-helpfiles while left i work ). Then i use several desktops for tasks such as a fullscreen Virtualmachine of Windows ( for when i have to test on different platforms ).
Occassionally on a last desktop theres a cd burner running - some rendering task in the background or big copying going on usually.

I use virtual desktops (under linux) quite a lot, I do have a dual monitor setup too. Just keeps things uncluttered. But under windows I find dual monitors just fine. I tend to watch a lot of TV and movies on my PC's though, and it is pretty awesome to dedicate one of the monitors to the TV.
If, for example I am watching formula 1, the other split between the live timing screens and MSN/IRC/Other chat client. and flip to a VD to check website updates etc (YES I really am that big a geek when it comes to my love of motorsport LOL) So, yes, they rock my world
