Coolest post I've ever read...

Post by Straker »

I recently stumbled upon this and just thought I would share this with my fellow forum junkies. This will be of special interest to motorcycle enthusiasts (like Beach) or Rush fans or both. Its a really cool true story.

Enjoy.

I'm in Coeur d'Alene. No, unfortunately I don't own a bike. Just a Rush fan...

Haha, Absolutely amazing story! Funny, I love bikes, I love the band Rush and I play Bass,Drums and a little keyboard as a hobby lol. Neil Peart is a man I would love to meet and take for a beer, it'll never happen, but haha. Currently I have no bike. My wife decided a long time ago they would be the death of me... I should have ignored her really... but I still go play on other peoples bikes from time :P. Thanks for posting that Straker. Really made me smile this evening :P

Cool! I'm outside of Twin Falls, and I'm a Rush fan as well... I'm actually hoping to buy some property up your way for a retirement bungalow in a few years. Beautiful area Northern Idaho...

Way cool! I've played bass and guitar (electric and acoustic blues mostly) for about 30 years now. I used to play with a guy named Buddy Ell who was a Neil Peart fanatic. Buddy had a lot of Neil's patterns down and was constantly working on 'em... I never aspired to the level of proficiency as a bass player like Geddy Lee. What a talented group...
My wife decided a long time ago they would be the death of me...
My wife actually encourages me to get away on occasion and relax... I call my RS the "TARDIS" from Dr. Who...

Without a doubt, that was awesome, not just because it's Rush, but because it was a great moment in life for someone. People who've never actually met, but have in a way met, oh so many years ago..... An unforeseen culmination reaching it's point.

It's funny, I used to be an avid R&T reader, totally freaking into Rush, and always wanted a Bmw bike (never got a chance to get one though, ended up with a Honda Magna 750). Some day, I'd at least like to complete this by getting the bike.. Some day.

Yeah, good find on this and thanks for giving us a link to it... Enjoyed reading it completely. :-) Thanks.

What a great story. I have always been a big Rush fan and still today put them in my playlist. I also love my BMW bike, although I have not racked up the miles like those guys have. I only live about 15 minutes from some of the best mountain roads in North Georgia (USA).

Thanks for sharing that story Straker!

Gotta admit I like Beemers... but I consider my bike ('99 ST1100 Honda) the best bike ever. My friend rode his BMW K1200LT and he simply loves it.

BasicGuy.... I recently returned from an 8 day 3000 mile bike trip from Vancouver Island to Missoula, Montana and we went through Coeur D'Alene. We'd get up each morning and golf a local course (we rented clubs), then we'd ride until supper. We repeated this every day. What a great vacation! The only downer was the smoke from the many forest fires (it was hot) especially when we went from Missoula to Kalispell. There is no better way to travel.

Straker.. We tried to golf the famous course with the island green, but we couldn't get on until 4:30 PM so we golfed at a small local course (Caddy Shack, I think). Too bad we missed it.

I'm a big fan of the ST1100 as well and consider it one of the best designs Honda ever produced. I was actually in the motions of buying a used ST1100 from a local shop when a friend who rides an RS told me about one in Salt Lake City. I've owned a number of bikes over the years, many of them Hondas, but always wanted a Beemer... If I hadn't bought the RS, an ST would have been in my garage instead! 8)

Your vacation sounded better than mine! I rode through Oregon down through California on the PCH and Hwy 101, back north, then back through Oregon again. It rained *every* day... :?

I had originally wanted to ride the Columbia River Gorge and then up and over Lolo Pass in Idaho and back down western Montana. But I was so tired of the rain, and I met some folks in Oregon who had been in snow up in Lolo Pass two days before, I just headed home... :?

Glad you guys enjoyed it.

@BasicGuy: Nice ride.

@blueb: I'm surprised that you were even able to get a same day tee time for the resort course. It's amazingly popular and is really the city's signature attraction. Here's a pic for the rest of you:

Best to book in advance!

@BasicGuy: I can't wait to do it again... once the weathers agrees, especially on some of those high mountain passes.

@Straker: Oh you're not out in the boonies, that's for sure. We both know that this part of the world is absolutely magnificent.

Cheers.

Very interesting story, even though I don't like motorbikes or Rush.
