those of u with package managers (apt, synaptic, emerge, etc), this will be most of u, i need you so conduct a search of your distro's available packages.

can u pls search for 'sasl' packages, and tell me if you have cyrus sasl (lib named libsasl) or GNUsasl

i need to know to see which one i need to implement... as with a bit of work i can use either on windows...

yeah, i eventually gave up (as i realised most of the people here would have been in bed when i posted it) and i just looked on my isp's mirror which mirrors a few major repositories (debian, opensuse, redhat, gentoo, mandrake i think)
and it looks like its cyrus sasl

it actually compiled pretty easy on windows. surprised me
