A question to openSuSE user's

Post by walker »

I intend to switch to openSuse because my ubuntu installation is broken too often (not the whole install but some parts... 2 times the last 3 month opengl was broken, a few times more something was wrong with kaffeine, 2 times I had to fix the X installation and so on...) This happens always after an update (regardless of security update or whatever). This affects my PureBasic installation nearly every time and if something does not run as expected, I had to check my installation first before submitting a bug report... (and to reinstall different packages of course)
Ubuntu is a good and easy to use distro... but a little crappy ... and not a good choice for a PB user (my opinion) at present.

I'd tested SuSe 10.3 Alpha7 (I was Suse user till 9.x) a little in a VM and must say.. very impressive...
My Question: is it possible to update an Alpha (or Beta as there is Beta 1 available at present) to the final without reinstalling the whole Distro? If so, I would switch immediately.. if not, I'll way until the final is out... :?:
Is it possible to run PureBasic on the x64 edition :?: (did Suse support 32 bit on 64bit environment?)

(didn't found anything about that on Suse.com)

An answer is really appreciated....

First, you shouldn't start with an alpha/beta version on a work system. Just stick to the 10.2 version. openSUSE 10.2 is working rock solid here, or wait until the 10.3 final.

Anyway, if you have a working 10.3 alpha/beta install, you can always get updates from "factory repository" until the version reaches final. Then you can just switch to the "standard" 10.3 repository and get later / final updates from there. I updated all working 10.1 versions to 10.2 with packages from the repository without problems. But take care with updates from "factory" as they can be highly experimental and some fundamental things may change in final version.

Can't say anything about PureBasic on x86-64, but openSUSEs 32bit version is working on a 64bit environment.
