Please Beta Test - VNC Viewer GUI front end for GTK+2

Post by Straker »

Hi All,

Please beta test my new app. It is a front-end GUI for vncviewer for GTK+2 environments (Gnome, KDE, XFCE, etc.).

It was created to help new users to linux avoid the terminal. I just built a new Ubuntu box for a client and they are not linux terminal savvy, so I wrote this to help them use VNC Viewer.

From the readme:
VNC Viewer GUI (0.1 beta) - Straker
======================================================

'gvncviewer' is a GTK+2/Gnome front-end GUI for VNC Viewer. It also stores multple host servers which are selectable from a drop-down list.

Package Dependencies:
- xvncviewer (vncviewer)
- x11vnc (vnc server)

Make sure these two packages are installed before running 'gvncviewer'.

'gvncviewer' is a binary file ready to run on your GTK+2 enabled desktop (Gnome, KDE, etc..)

Installation:
- Unpack the downloaded archive
- Make 'gvncviewer' executable: chmod +x gvncviewer
- To run the app: ./gvncviewer or double-click from your graphical file browser

This application will create a folder in your home folder named '.vncviewer' where the preferences file will be stored.

- First Beta Version

Thanks in advance for testing.

I gues I shouldn't try connecting to localhost with it atleast not in full screen mode

It seems to work though, I'm running Ubuntu 7.04 with a custom build 2.6.21 Kernel with Con Kolivas patchset

Sure - do you have any experience calling libcrypt.so or libcrypto.so functions? Show me how to encrypt/decrypt a string and I will oblige.
