Hmmm... PureBasic is great, but not cool!

Look at the PureBasic website: http://www.purebasic.com/
That looks like a website for old farts and not interesting at all.. it looks like a dead place.
Now look at Blitz' website: http://blitzbasic.com/
Now that is freaking cool! All the 3D games that are done with Blitz are advertized on the website and that website looks very interesting for teenagers too!

Also, Blitz has lots of flavours, while PureBasic has only one flavour, except there are some German Only flavours.. Here's more info about them:

1. PureBasic 4 3D Game Developer: http://www.pearl.de/productchoice_redir ... did=PK3320
This edition looks very interesting and seems like it is great! You also get 10 years of free updates for only 70€ which sounds like a great deal for a teenager.

2. PureBasic Game Programmer's Edition: http://www.pearl.de/productchoice_redir ... did=PK2576
This one is an old flavour of the German Only flavours and has PureBasic 3.30. But still, this one looks great for young people who want to start developing games. This edition doesn't have free updates though, but not bad for 25€ pocket money.

3. PureBasic Professional Edition: http://www.amazon.co.uk/PureBasic-Profe ... B000BI80DA
This one looks less interesting for younger people, but older people might find this "the" professional programming language. This might also interest people who bough the Game Developer or Game Programmer's Edition. This one has PureBasic 3.30 too and doesn't give free updates either.

I will repeat this again:
We HAVE to focus on the younger developers too! The PureBasic 4 3D Game Developer Edition looks really interesting for an average teenager (like me) if I was interested in doing 3D games, etc.. The PureBasic website is a big MINUS from a teenager's view. No Fred, we don't need to make it pink but make it more _alive_.

If you would ask me to rate the PureBasic website, then it would barely get a 3 out of 10. The Blitz website isn't the very coolest, but it would get a 8.5 out of 10. What do you think? I think it's about time PureBasic gets cooler and more popular just like Blitz products are.

Btw: If I had to buy PureBasic, I would consider buying the German Only flavours and not the original PureBasic :roll:

The PureBasic website isn't the most beautiful one, but you get the
information you need within a few seconds, as at BlitzBasic you
first have to differ between all the ads and the "real" information.
But you're right, a new style for PureBasic.com would be cool.

Also true, but a young developer like me doesn't care about facts and information, the only fact I care about is that I can do something with the programming language. We HAVE to focus on the younger developers too!

money for about 3 months to buy PureBasic (like me)?

Second: PureBasic doesn't exist in a special version in Germany. It's only false advertising

That are the same PureBasic versions you can buy online at the PB website. The only difference is: by buying directly from Fred, you get unlimited free upgrades :roll: A bit better than 10 years, eh?

It's all about the packaging and the look.. I'll still buy that PureBasic 4 3D Game Developer we'll see if it is a scam. It will take a while though before I go to Germany again.

Not really, I also talked about flavours. It would be cool if there was a PureBasic version aimed at game programming with extended 3D functionality, one aimed at developing complex applications with easy stuff such like flowcharts, and finally one with all the features of game and app edition.

It would be cool to be able to buy PureBasic with pocket money as high as 30-50€ to get a game developer's edition, whilst some people might prefer making complex applications at the same price rate, but if anyone wants the full package they pay around 80-100€.. Also, it would be nice if the editions would be upgreadable e.g. change your game developer license to full license with 30€ etc..

What do you say? I am just wanting to give ideas and help the PureBasic project, but if you don't like my ideas then fine, it's not my product after all.

I already suggested two completely devided homepages, one for game-developers and one for app-developers....

maybe, with your new input, this idea would be taken more attention to..

the model of two different versions...

we had that in germany until 4.0release...

you could buy 3.30 for 30-40€, and the update for 35€, when full-version costed 70€...

really, we didn't like it.

most were disappointed, we also have a little clique in the german forum using only 3.30...

I dunno, how effective it is for selling, maybe quite nice, but this will be covered by the "PB4 game developers version"

Although everyone here has great respect for Fred and the team,
I think many would be a bit upset if PureBasic suddenly started branching off.

One of the things I really like about PureBasic is the fact that there is only one PureBasic, that keeps improving and improving.

Sure PureBasic doesn't have all the bells and whistles like some other languages, but at least your not tricked into buying tons of alternate versions and plugins. With PureBasic as it is, you get the full package, no tricks or hidden extras you have to fork out money for.

As for the website. I like simplicity.
But I agree that maybe some thumb screenshots linking to stuff and some community news feed could be added to the frontpage. (if the website has access to the forum database the news feed could simply be a announcement thread, easy to maintain too)

Also, I'd rather Fred and Team focus on PureBasic evolution rather than fiddling with the website

As to branching product lines, eve just two different products would not only split the time in half but possibly in three. Meaning Fred and team would have even less time to focus on say PureBasic improvement. And I doubt Fred wants to toss out money to get a larger development team etc.

You got valid points though, but question is, it may not be what Fred and Team wants, and if the existing community is not fully supportive of such then it would be a pain to branch out PureBasic as support for a new product would be virtually null. It all boils down to Time+Cost+Manpower+Community Interest+Willingness to pay extra.

Not easy to make all those things work out really.

The pricing should be fair:

PureBasic Professional Edition: 70€
PureBasic Game Developer: 40€
PureBasic Application Edition: 40€
Upgrade from Game/App to Pro: 30€

This way if you buy the Game Developer edition you can anytime you like upgrade to the Pro version and you still pay the same amount that you would if you just bought PureBasic Professional.

Seriously, this way people who want to develop games can buy only "half" of the Pro edition, and incase they would like the other "half" of the functionality PureBasic offers, they could upgrade their copies for a fair price.

It's time we ditch OGRE and use a better engine like Irrlicht

3D functionality should be exclusive to Game Developer and Professional Edition only.
And the Visual Designer and WinAPI should be an exclusive to the Application and Professional Edition only.

I would love it if Purebasic was "divided" into 3 like I explained above.
What do you say?

I don't think BlitzBasic web are great... but i do think that Purebasic.com are old fashioned and not much attractive, not in the graphic side and not in the speech.

A little more work in the web page sure can boost sales.

Why not just buy 3 copies of PureBasic instead
