Hummer Vandalised by Environmentalists

Post by GeoTrail »

This is so sad, and in a way crazy, I mean, look at the price of that car, 38 000 US$. For a Hummer. That is 217 717 Norwegian kroner. Know what you get for that amount in Norway? A stupid stripped down Toyota Yaris without much stash. Or if you save some more bucks, you can buy a second hand Ford Mondeo 2004 mod with a TDi engine for 248 000 kroners. http://www.motortorget.no/ann/view.asp? ... 8572&cat=1

:?

We in norway are just going to have to face the fact that we are NEVER going to be a member of the EU. If we did, what would happen to our economy? Our wages? On the other hand, would be great to have the prices that are common in most EU countries with our salaries.

Trying to save the environment by trashing peoples cars isn't going to work IMHO. Some people have strange ideas.

Here's a cheap Mondeo from the UK, about $29000 (166150 kroners I think)

you don't? its a simple fact. Just go look at the same cars online on .dk and .no sites..

Lets have an example!

AUDI.

http://audi.dk/
http://www.audi.no

we look at the A8 6.0 W12 quattro 4-dørs tiptronic !

danish price (remember: DKR is more worth than NOK!)
2.243.514,- dkr

norwegian price (again, NOK is LESS worth. i'll recalc later)
1 963 500

okay. Lets use an online currency converter and make BOTH prices in EURO.

denmark: 301 511 €
norway: 248 468 €

thats a difference of more than 50 000€. And that is a HUGE difference. Now, lets take a look at the german price..

german: 112 750 € (ridicolous price!!!)

And even worse; USA! (audiusa.com)
america: 86 466 € (119 350 USD) (even MORE ridicolous)

Denmark is the leader. USA is the rock bottom cheapest in this test. All prices are the SAME car, and all prices are from official audi sites for the countries, and all the prices are converted using a daily updated service from valutakurser.dk using their online converter.

Thanks ;)

Okay if that is not enough lets take another brand, with a cheaper car. Honda, perhaps?

Lets take their Accord Sedan 2,2 i-CTDi Sport

Denmark: 55 218 € (410 875 DKR)
Norway: 42 094 € (332 650 NOK)

again a MASSIVE difference. These prices are from honda.dk and honda.no, again live prices.

edit: Forgot to tell you to STOP WHINING about prices in norway..

Both those cars are expensive cars. How about a small cheaper car? Like a Yaris or something? An A3 basic model? Or a 2000 Volvo V70 2 litre.

okay

A3 Attraction 1.8 TFSI 3-dørs 6 gear

denmark: 352.462 DKR
norway: 328 700 NOK

compared in euro (again, DKR is more than NOK)

denmark: 47 368 €
norway: 41 595 €

Okay now, when we get to smaller cars the price equals out. But as i never had to buy a small car, im more interested in the stuff that drives rather fast you know.. (i think the smallest Fiat Punto was 500 euro cheaper in denmark, because fiat is one of the companies that sell cars to denmark at special pricings, eg cheaper than other countries because of our extreme 300% thing). They do that with the small & cheaper cars only, because the companies can afford it. The people who buy big cars probably can afford it anyway (also denmark just highered the price on big SUV's and so on. Luckily we bought ours last year ;) )

lets take a last minute one, ford siesta 1.4 TDCI GHIA

denmark: 24 955 € (185 691 DKR)
norway: 23 220 € (183 500 nok)

here you see the effect. As soon as you move into another car class, it goes up. But i am not interested in small cars :)

OK all this is nice but...

Several :?: 's come to mind:

1. How much TAX does each government apply to imports?
2. How easy is it to IMPORT a USED CAR to these countries?
3. Anybody want to buy a 1993 Mercedes 190e 2.6 inline V6 with only 120,000 miles and very fast? :D
4. Grey Market cars / Black Market cars... Which are illegal in those countries?

I think the thing is that most governments TAX the hell out of imports in order to keep prices HIGH.

In the 1990's the venerable VW Bug was no longer being imported to USA. They were made in Mexico until 2005(??? 2006??? 2003???) and people made a great deal of money importing the bodies (without engine or glass) and engines to the USA and reinstalling the engine and putting in the correct DOT safety glass.. They sold like NEW cars (well they were!) but at prices often 15,000.00 more than they were bought for in Mexico.

I think the fault is CREDIT.

CREDIT has allowed the business to charge whatever they want for anything they produce without taking the ability of the consumer into mind when attempting to set prices.

Heck! If it is so expensive... most places will finance you rather than lower prices.

This is a BAD THING.

People get into a hole that they can't get out of!

1) 300% + some green taxes which are not included in the 300% (perhaps 1000 usd a year for our cars)

2) its easy, but they will apply the 300% tax so its not that easy. However more and more imports used cars from germany which are often sold much cheaper compared to their price than in denmark, and often in very good shape. You save a bit but not that much

3)
Sounds nice hehe. I think the older cars are suitable for easy tuning (not chiptuning of course, but perhaps smashing a nice compressor on it). How much do you want for it?

4)
Not sure?

CREDIT has allowed the business to charge whatever they want for anything they produce without taking the ability of the consumer into mind when attempting to set prices.
And most people fall for it :/ Its sad. They don't use their head!

We (me and the missus) have a an American pickup-truck standing out there in front that costed us 398,500 Norwgian Kr's,
don't know what that translates into, but we have also bought a small Citroen C1, and probably will sell the monster in order
to be more environmentally compatible, so hope we can all help out :)

We have a japanese suv worth around 600 000 dkr :)
(2.2 dci, a turbo diesel.)

And this is our main car (300 000 dkr, 2.4 litre gasoline engine)

I know they are not that expensiv brands, however the new sonata is so wonderfull whe chose it over a mercedes and the mazda 6. Its simply more delightfull to drive, and it has a better look than the others too according to ME.

The nissan was chosen over a porsche cayenne, not because of the price but because my dad don't like bragging. Both are really good cars, and they look very nice inside, too.

Yeah that's what I meant, smaller cars and the prices equals out. Because of the environmental taxes and shit.

We have a Kia Credos. Cost around 240 000 NOK, but in our tax returns it is listed to have a worth of 610 000 NOK hehehe. Which off course if totally wrong hehehe.

300% OUCH!!!!!!

I can tell you that my 190e was born to run the Autobahn... Or Houston Freeways... it is almost the same thing... 8am rush hour... 90 miles an hour... 1 car length of space between you and the people in front and back of you...

Houston drivers get mad at people that visit and try to drive because they can't handle that... I wonder why???

I would sell her for 8000.00 US$ minimum. The wife has been bagging me to put her on Collectorcartrader.com or hemmings.com.

Our other cars... My 2004 Toyota Highlander V6 and her 2006 Toyota Corolla S. I sold the 912 last month. That was a good car!

We have some more space between the cars here, usually. I like german autobahns, hammering on the way with 130 mph hehe. The speed limit here is just under 90, but i usually drive around the 90 or 100's. (we do use km/h though. Speed limit on autobahns is 130 km/h here)

8000$? I might be lucky to find an old VW GOLF II 1.4 for that amount :) But luckily i can drive my parents cars.

Also be aware that gas prices here are rather high, so driving a 2.4 as we do is way above average car size and it uses quite more gas, too. The 4x4 is diesel
