Safari for Windows!

Post by Killswitch »

Apple has released Safari for Windows - I'm actually posting from it now. It's kinda nice. Have a look for yourself!

And that's a Beta???
Neither my own website nor purebasic.fr/english get displayed correctly (try
to login, it's really funny)!
Safari looks like an Alpha in the first stage, not like a beta.
I'll stay at Firefox, the truly best browser in the world!

Looks really nice I think, and it's fast. But very very very unstable. I tried adding a bookmark, and CRASH. Clicked on the plugins menu, and CRASH hehehe

Maybe they need some skilled PureBasic developers to fix the bugs ;)

Now comes the big question: Why did Apple anyway wanted to port Safari to Windows?

Unless their operating system gets portable (meaning that you can install it to nearly any machine and doesn't rely on special hardware) they can't use this as a method to sell more copies of OS X.

Funnily enough, Safari uses the KHTML rendering engine found in Konqueror in KDE for Linux, and Konqueror works with most websites really good, maybe nearly as good as Opera, and yet the Safari has so many rendering errors that it is too early to say it's a beta, more particularily it's an alpha.

Simple. Its on Windows so they hope more web-devs test their sites with it. The reason why? The iPhone uses Safari code to render its websites.

(Personally I think its awful.)

Really fast, but crashes too often. OK, it's beta stage. But the final version could be the new browser on windows!
cheers,

I didn't notice any render issues on any of the sites I visited, but I wasn't really paying attention to be honest. Still, it has the potential to be nice.

BTW Has anyone seen the videos of OS X Lepard in action? I wish they'd open it up for everyone to use!

It shouldn't be beta at that early stage. Even alpha would be too early.

It seems to be corefoundation.dll that causes the crashes.

I don't see the point. May be to increase the Safari statistic on web page rank ?

Well, Fred. I don't see the point to a Mac version of PB, either.
Why should a software vendor release its software for multiple operating systems?
That's just batty, isn't it?

That's my opinion, i could be wrong. There is just so much good browser on Windows, than it's just wierd than Apple spend its programming force on it. To have a good integration, look and feel and all little Windows thinggies, it will take a while.

I hope there come a flag for the Webgadget on windows:

Code: Select all

#PB_Web_Safari
PureBasic 5.73 | SpiderBasic 2.30 | Windows 10 Pro (x64) | Linux Mint 20.1 (x64)
Old bugs good, new bugs bad! Updates are evil: might fix old bugs and introduce no new ones.

Are you being sarcastic because PureBasic is cross-platform?
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).
