Need your help! - Optimize companies webpage

The company i made my practical course atm, assigned me to check and optimize all links/images/and other stuff of there webpage! Now i have an archive with all html and image stuff packed in a about 3,5 MB zip! Its ofcourse a lot of work to check any html documents, all its links and used graphics! What i am searching for, is a very good tool to say the index.html and this tool will remove all not needed html/image stuff or copy all needed stuff a new folder! I heared that there are some tools around (esp. webpage builders) which will and can optimize this nearly good... Only problem is that there is a lot of java stuff too and inside the javastuff are calls to html/images and so on too... If someone know a good and maybe easy to use tool, please tell me (links would be nice too)... Many many thanks in advance!

Edit: One thing I have done in the past, if the site is live, is to webwhack it on to your local drive. Not always appropriate but may help reduce the amount that you need to trawl through.

1.- Get the list of every image called by some web page so you can get out images that dosent has any call?

2.- Check if the links on your pages are valid?

Just need to parse every page and whenever find a link to a file (image, script, etc) move those file to a folder, at the end the files that wasnt moved are not used...

Make a list of every link founded to be sure!

Sorry, to late for you. However, the demo of DreamWeaver by Macromedia does just this. Checks for 'orphan' files, and links that attempt to link to .html files not existing.

Even if you are done with your project, you might want to take a copy of their existing sie, and run it through anyways.
