Now Radio can be a cool medium, as can podcasts. But bandwidth issues can be a problem. Getting said mediums popular enough to make em worthwhile can also be a problem.

I used to help out with a few of the blitz basic based Shoutcast radio shows from time to time, they were pretty popular at one point (I don't mean mine... haha, mine was generally drunken ramblings about random subjects and steered clear of programming talk lol), as in general, but none of us could afford a dedicated high bandwidth server to deal with demand, then it just fizzled out into drivel and non existance.

Podcasts can also have high bandwidth usage and if say your Webhost only gives you 20GB traffic a month.... it can be eaten in a day and you end up with a MASSIVE bill at the end of the month.

I'm not saying any of these ideas are bad, just be aware of the risks and costs. Also, playing any music on said shows without the correct licencing from multiple record labels can and does get you into a load of trouble.

Unless you are using copyright/royalty free stuff of course.

We did only get one article from the German author of the Irrlicht Wrapper.
Not a single one from this English community - and the French even laughted at us.
And translators... well, two out of 2800 actually wrote me a PM - unfortunately one of them couldn't speak German, but at least he wanted to support our project.
It's not our intention to spend money on hosting, to spend time for layout, graphics etc without the support of the community.

P.S.:
So Chris (our man for hosting-related stuff) decided to take down pb-cm.net - after more than 2000 - two thousand - downloads of our first and last issue.

@Luzi. Don't worry. I'm a Linux user for several years now. I know about "free" music - and I never mentioned music, did I? ;)

Don't worry guys. It's just a poll and if there is not enough bandwidth, I'll switch to torrents or something else. I'll find a solution! For sure!!!!

PB.CM died.
PB.Podcast will die, too
I know, what you mean, but I don't give up! ;)

Call the "bad wulf", if you'll need help. Wink
;)
I agree this would be cool...
That's why I'm asking.

I guess you don't need to be a good programmer to love a programming language and it's community, or to bring in some kind of information (Tutorial, Magazin or Podcast)! :D

That's not true.
I gave you (PBCM) 2 new articles.
And I believe, va!n asked for to create a further one.

Calm down, guys. PB.CM is over. Some switched to other OS+Languages for some reasen, others can't spend time for hosting, other simple lost motivation. Don't bother, team, we _tried_ and ___did___ our best.

This is just a new try from me, but this time, I'll ask before making stuff. ;)

And it's true - Wolf and va!n offered articles for issue #2!

Too bad it happened like this. About the radio or tv stuff, maybe we can actually use P2P technology to serve our needs. There are lots of broadcasting proggies (like tvu player, it has a broadcast server), and the bandwidth would be shared. Also, torrents are a good idea... And we don't have to worry about a schedule. When there's something up, we just start broadcasting :). I am willing to help with anything i can.

Looks interesting!
Also if people can serve more than one peer. For example I have a 20 mbit upload just for myself :)

Oddly enough, that is a podcast I "might" listen to

You never released an English version, how can you expect the English community to support something when you intentionally exclude them from the end result

I think something along the lines of a podcast would be a very nice little enhancement to PB & the forums.
Good idea bembulak.

Don't worry to much about Bandwith, I'm involved in a Prohject called Sceneproject.org we host interesting stuff from interesting communities and we will happily host bot PB Podcasts and PB:CM if there were a new Issue. Currently we are helping with hosting the grml GNU/Linux Live CD which yesterday went final, for that we will spent up to 500 GB of Bandwith depending on how many people will download from our server. If the first wave of grml downloads is over we could also host any PB Podcasts and give them some bandwith, so don't worry.
Btw paying this server isn't as expensive as it sounds, we have hosted some Google Ads on Sceneproject.org and they pay about 50% of the cost, then we have some Webdesign company lead by some of my friends involved which pay us as well.

Thanks for your ideas and the willing to help!

I was also thinking about torrents, but Nik's offer also sounds interesting.
Btw: we never released an english version of the mag, because it's damn hard to translate a technical article you don't even understand in you native language to another.

I'm not sure of all of these things yet. I'll still watch the poll for a couple of days.
Then I have to check for the tech-stuff (how to record and cut down the podcast). So I gotta play around a little with some programs.
Next thing is to have a look for hosters (I found some with quite good traffic specialized on podcasts).
And last but not least I'll have to look for topics and an english dictionary. :D

@Inf0Byt3: is it ok to PM you?
