May I be so bold...
as to suggest that Vista sucks better than my vacuum cleaner? And suggesting that having to have Vista compatibility is a *must* is simply laughable and sounds like you were paid off by MS parters with their hands in MS pockets???
I hear of so many large companies telling ms to go and play with their own marbles, even whole countries bypassing xp to go straight to linux.
I think we should all wait a couple of years and see where the lie of the land is before full commitance.
/me watches the flames start..

No flames will occur, everybody's aware of the facts. Windows Vista sux arse and so does XP. Well, less than Vista but still sux. And the law of mass production permits me using a different OS. It's like choosing between Aids and cancer!/me watches the flames start..

All new computers is shipped with Windows Vista, and it's not very long until it will be the most used operating system in the world for normal home users. I laugh back at you if you tell me that I shouldn't care about making my programs compatible with it!Fangbeast wrote:And suggesting that having to have Vista compatibility is a *must* is simply laughable...
I like logic, hence I dislike humans but love computers.

Define "programs" and define "compatibility". If you are writing games, and are an indie developer, it is impossible to make your games "fully" compatible with Vista unless you are independently wealthy and can afford to spend several thousands of dollars for each game title you release.Joakim Christiansen wrote:I laugh back at you if you tell me that I shouldn't care about making my programs compatible with it!
If you are an indie game developer, I can't help but laugh at you, as Vista has literally locked out indie game developers and killed indie game development as we know it. This isn't an opinion, it isn't hyperbole, it isn't anti-ms, its simply the truth and a truth well recognized by industry leaders. Any parent in their right mind will have game explorer enabled on their kid's PCs. And since no indie game developer (especially us freeware developers) can afford the fees of thousands of dollars for the mandatory ESRB ratings, we really have no choice, Microsoft is the one who made the decision, not us. We couldn't develop games for Vista even if we wanted to. We are locked out from "full" compatibility by the choices Microsoft has made.
On another note, equally laughable are those who think Vista is secure. The main security feature (of which there are none) being touted for Vista is something Unix has had since 1969. Of course Microsoft has NEVER been about innovation, and it is laughable that Vista is touted as having security features, when in reality it doesn't. All Microsoft has done is put the responsibility of security on the end user and locked down the operating system which is generally something you only do when your security methods have failed
I have NEVER been anti-MS and I have never been overly fond of Linux. Vista is what has turned me and is now why I am moving to Linux and is why Linux will be the primary OS I develop for.
Is a must for microsoft to make vista windows-compatibleJoakim Christiansen wrote:That might be a good idea for anyone now, Vista compatibility is a must.
way. My Software is windows-compatible, shit of vista-compatible at the moment.
Vista is only a problem for microsoft and for vista user, not for the developer!

Old bugs good, new bugs bad! Updates are evil: might fix old bugs and introduce no new ones.

I agree, I have said before that XP with the service packs and a few hundred patches is now quite a good and IMHO a stable OS.thefool wrote:I can't agree on that. I find my windows XP to be one of the best experiences ever in the world of os'esFluid Byte wrote:Windows Vista sux arse and so does XP.

I also have to disagree, sure Vista sux, IMO its turning out to be a bigger dog than ME was. But for me XP has turned out to be the most stable and reliable version of Windows I've used. My current installation is three years old and still working without any issues.Fluid Byte wrote:Windows Vista sux arse and so does XP
That's true but will it stay that way? I know a lot of people that bought a new computer with Vista and either reformatted it and installed XP after trying Vista for a while or did it out-right without even booting Vista once.Joakim Christiansen wrote:All new computers is shipped with Windows Vista
Well, ive just installed XP, and im not very happy, simply because the whole reason ive downgraded seems to be my lovely new issues, hopefully someone here can help me?
My Zonet ZEW1600 wireless card cant seem to find any drivers that work with it, I have one set that is aparently specifically supposed to, but it keeps claiming the card isnt plugged in... hmm. It would be nice to get internet thats not on my psp for a while...
My Geforce FX 5700LE drivers wont support my dual monitors....
My Logical MX500 drivers (keyboard and mouse) wont work either, wlel, they work, but they crash constantly.
Any ideas?
