Do you get the ebook version of the latest hardcover fiction for free? No, you have to pay for it.
G-PB wrote:I *imagine* that taking a document for a book, and converting it to pdf format isn't much work...but I could be underestimating the work going into the PDF version.
The same amount of work goes into writing a book that is published in traditional print as one that is published as an ebook.

With books, you generally buy whatever format best suits your needs. Personally, I mostly buy print books. On rare occasion I buy audio books, and increasingly I buy ebooks to read on my Palm. Books I really like, I sometimes buy in muliple formats.
I should have known from your previous posts, that you don't know when to quit. I already said there's no point in arguing. But since you insist... I might also mention that it's not a universal law that buying one product from a company won't entitle you to another product. While it may not be common, it's not unheard of. And yes, the work going into an ebook is the same amount of work for the hard copy... the exact same work.. ie, two products from one source. Which is what Kaeru was stating. As I said before, these are just requests. No need to get defensive. Kale can hold his own. No one is demanding anything.

@kale

you might sell your book with a CD-ROM in which there's all the sources codes, the win32 help file, some useful includes and the e-book version.

FLAMEWAR!!!!!!!!!!

It makes me laugh all these hostile posts. lol. Anyway, back to the point. I sold the hard copy for a while to make a bit of money and realised some people wanted an e-book. So i made it available. I was a bit concerned over piracy of the PDF because it's unsecured but i thought sod it and released it anyway.

For those of you who have bought the hard copy, i would of liked to give a discount but i have really no way to match you people up to the orders i've already recieved so i decided to not bother.

The main reason for me writting this book was that one didn't exist for beginners and i could really help out and it could make me a bit of cash on the side aswell.

It took me over a year (of all my free time) to complete even during holidays on my laptop and nearly lost me a girlfriend. I also ended up with bad RSA for 4 months after. I suffered for my art! lol. Anyway i'm pleased with the end result and there has been nothing but praise for it.

Buy it if you want, i'm sure you would learn a few things from it. But don't please tell me how i should release it. I may be greedy over this but wouldn't you be if you had put the work into it?

ta.

I never said I wanted the eBook version for free! I'd be willing to pay for it, just not at full price since I already have the book.

The main reason I'd want the eBook version is because with my not so perfect vision, I can magnify as needed for easier reading. Had I known that an eBook version would be available, I'd have waited for it rather than buy the paper version.

Honestly though, offering the eBook version at a discount or free to those who've already bought the paper book would be a "challenge". He or his publisher would need to set up some way to insure that the buyer asking for a discounted price did actually buy the paper book. It could be done, but would entail a bit of extra work for less money.

I also just bought the book through Cafepress. Nicely written and well explained. Ideal for a beginner like myself. ;)

Thanks for putting it together!

I don't believe you don't know who your paying customers are. :twisted:
