I also own Krylar's PB Game Developing Book

Actually it covers a different approach to PB's Multimedia Programming and worth it, too, be sure to check it out.

Since Yoxola is promoting this, he has generously offered to personally refund your money if you purchase this product and Idiotcon does not fill the order even though you have paid for it.yoxola wrote:I also own Krylar's PB Game Developing Book

All of them, your signature has your banner promoting your book that's also a link to the site where you can buy it, I'd say that qualifies...Kale wrote:WishMaster wrote:I don't like that you're always pushing yourself...
Always? i wonder what percentage of my posts are marketing?
Yup, the "No" I can acept, theJoakim Christiansen wrote:He already answered that and it's a no with a -->

But no problem here, I bought the paper book and I'm happy with it so I'll pass on the PDF version, buying the book once is enough. I was only interested in the PDF version because with my not so perfect vision, it would be easier to read because I could magnify it as needed.
I also agree about the "greed" comment. Even in joking, it's really not so funny. And as far as making a PDF version available for free to those that bought the book, I think it's a good idea. Why? Because there are typos and other issues that have been updated in the book since it was first released (If I recall correctly). None of these updates, though, warrant the title of "2nd Revision" etc. As such, the subsequent releases really are just a "corrected" first version. So why charge those who have already paid? Just seems like a good "community" gesture. Of course, when $$ is the main concern, it's not an easy gesture to make.Joakim Christiansen wrote:He already answered that and it's a no with a -->

I also own the book. He put a lot of time and effort into it. It's good both for beginners and 'vets'.
He's also been a very valuable resource in the forums.
If every licensed owner of PureBasic bought a copy, it wouldn't make him rich (but he'd like it I'm sure).
I can live with the 'evil' grins. That's just Kale's way of letting us know that whatever he does, it's really HIS decision. A PDF would be kinda nice, but I like the 'portability' factor of the book itself. Given my 'druthers', I'll stick with the hardcopy - thanks Kale, for writing it
cheers

Just because you buy a hardcopy of a book, it does not entitle you to a free ebook version. That is as silly as buying the latest hardcover fiction and then demanding a free audio-book version. Just not going to happen in the real world and e-publishing plays by the same rules as traditional publishing.
Last I knew, Krylar's book is based on an outdated version of PB. It is not aimed at beginners, since the conversion necessary of the code is above the head of those new to programming.
This book was not written by a PB user and an active community member.
The book is NOT actively being sold and is NOT listed on Idiotcons web site. By purchasing this book you are supporting a company who has a well-established history of screwing over indie developers, authors of programming languages and its customers in general.
By contrast, Kale's book (the hardcover) is being sold by a well-established and extremely reputable company, one of the fastest growing companies in the dot.com industry. It is a real brick and mortar company, they are not a Shareware Distributor hiding behind a ShareIt account. Kale's book is written by an active community member, totally professional, and is up to date and fully compatible with the current version of PB.
Then start your own thread to promote it, don't hijack Kale's thread. And put your money where your mouth is. Promise to financially reimburse anybody who orders this book you are promoting and then doesn't receive what they paid for.I got that book with no problem, however I want to have a electronic version of Krylar's Book, it you're doing multimedia programming, this shuits more than Kale's.

Just to be clear... I don't think anyone is saying he is obligated to give anything. And of course it's his material, and he is free to do as he wishes. The point I was trying to make, was basically it would be a nice gesture. By no means does he "have" to. And as far as getting an audiobook for free for buying a hard cover, I don't think it's quite the same thing. There's significant work going into each project seperately. I *imagine* that taking a document for a book, and converting it to pdf format isn't much work...but I could be underestimating the work going into the PDF version. Anyways, there's really no point in arguing. I bought the book last year.

since most publishers like to receive PDF-files by the authors, it should be exactly #NULL more work.G-PB wrote:I *imagine* that taking a document for a book, and converting it to pdf format isn't much work...but I could be underestimating the work going into the PDF version.
on the other hand they spare the printing effords, no ink, paper or machine-time needed.
thus, when somebody sells an ebook for the same price as a printed book, he earns even more.
(I didn't say Kale does. I don't know how much the versions of his book cost)
oh... and have a nice day.
Do you get the ebook version of the latest hardcover fiction for free? No, you have to pay for it.G-PB wrote:And as far as getting an audiobook for free for buying a hard cover, I don't think it's quite the same thing.
The same amount of work goes into writing a book that is published in traditional print as one that is published as an ebook.G-PB wrote:I *imagine* that taking a document for a book, and converting it to pdf format isn't much work...but I could be underestimating the work going into the PDF version.
With books, you generally buy whatever format best suits your needs. Personally, I mostly buy print books. On rare occasion I buy audio books, and increasingly I buy ebooks to read on my Palm. Books I really like, I sometimes buy in muliple formats.
If your money was eaten by Idigicon, I feel pity for you, really.
Krylar's book worths the money, and the game source is pretty descripitive if you can get a copy, book is a tool and what you need is the knowledge, in theis way Krylar's book is somehow very good.
Kale's book is good, too, but Krylar's one also worth a look.
