Show us your actual home

Post by PB »

I decided to start this topic after seeing the "where do you live" topic, and
I thought it might be cool to show others what your home actually looks like.

I live in a tiny rented two-bedroom unit in Sydney Australia with my wife and
baby boy. Here are some photos of it. Don't laugh at the size -- it's cheap. :)

This is the main room looking into the kitchen. All my coding and answering
these forums are done on the computer at the left of the photo. That's part
of my big DVD collection (over 450 titles so far!) on the bookshelves.

Here is the view the other way, showing my big rear-projection TV (109cm)
and white portable air conditioner (an important necessity in Australia!).

And here's the view we have from our balcony.

Looks cosy PB. I like the TV. Very small as you said. And great view.
The chair you have at your desk looks exactly like my chair hehehe.

I'll try to post some pictures from our house too. Right now I'm going to bed and later today we are having dinner at my parents house.

Yeah. :) There's two bedrooms too, but they're also small, about the size of
white carpeted area in the second photo. And a teeny bathroom. Can't afford
anything more luxurious, but luckily the landlord is very friendly with us and
hasn't raised the rent since we moved in (over 2 years ago). Apparently he
had really bad tenants for the last 3 rentals, so I think he's happy to keep us
there and doesn't want to scare us off with a rent increase. :) Due to the size
the rent is small -- we pay $275/week, and other units in the same area are
all over $300/week, so we did pretty well moving in there. Also, that big white
block of units in the upper-left in the third photo are $400-$500/week, so you
can see how the rental price varies greatly in the one area.

Nice view.

It's a wonder that you have time to get on these forums, I would of thought you would be watching films 24hrs a day with that collection and TV.

My place isn't large either (612 sq. ft. studio appartment) but then how much space does a single person living alone need?

Here's the floor plan:

Notice the 4 remotes? I will eventually replace them with a Logitec Harmony 550.

The chair is an Aeron by Herman Miller, I bought it several years ago when I was working from home. It's expensive at around $850 but if you need a chair you can sit in all day long and still be comfortable, it can't be beat.

Fuzziness is from doing a very quick stitching of several pictures to get it all. I'll try to get a better picture later....

It works until I decide I'm willing to spend the money on a recliner (possibly of the home theater variety)...

Probably just me, but I've never understood people that have such large movie collections.

Besides the time it would take to watch them, to me, most movies aren't worth watching even once, those that are worth watching but only once, I rent from NetFlix. The very few that I'd like to watch more than once, I'll buy.

So far my collection has all of 12 movies in it.
