I need an okay and free (or cheap
) 2D CAD package. I'm not entirely happy with the way Autocad does things (in fact, I hate it)... One of the packages I used a long time ago was TurboCad (on an Atari ST) and that was quite right.

This may not be what you're looking for, but if all you want is to design room layouts (bedrooms, office space and especially kitchens) then theres quite a good & free 2d planner from Ikea that is available on each countrys site - just search for "download" at http://www.ikea.co.uk
Also generates a reasonable 3d view and produces a pricing estimate...
