CutTheCosta! Worlds largest flights database...

Post by DoubleDutch »

It's the worlds largest flights database, very easy to use - just enter your departure airport, your destination airport and it will instantly find the airline who flies the route!

* written in PureBasic * :)

See http://www.CutTheCosta.com/fly/download for the download link.

P.S. Merry Christmas!

Psychophanta: Thanks :)

My brother-in-law suggested the name by accident - he suggested 'cut the cost', I thought he said 'cut the costa'. I thought he was being unusually clever ;)

We are entering more data over the next couple of months, I'll also be adding a similar search system directly on the website (using AJAX). The current website system will also stay because its a good way of letting search engines know what is on the site (they can't spider an AJAX search).

If anyone has any ideas on what they would like the program version to do, then please get in touch and I'll try to add whatever I can.

Another site was acknowledged as the worlds largest "flights" database in a UK newspaper a couple of months ago, this one has 7000 more flights, a few hundred airports and about 50 countries than that one currently has. :)

Very incomplete database
Frankfurt to Cebu, only Cathay Pacific
I flew before on this route with Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Malaysian airlines.
And maybe there are even more on this route...

I can't get home after christmas at all with this database, so I hope it's incomplete.

Looks like your stuck where you are for a while... ;)

There should be a large increase in the size of the database - to cover Eastern and other Airlines in the week or so.

It currently is the largest flights database available to download. We will be adding a *lot* more flights hopefully before the new year. Our internal database that we find the flights from has over 300 airlines and 17,800 airports - but I thought it would be best to show the beta before Christmas.

Don't forget its still a beta - if anyone would like any features adding before final release then please let me know. :)

Berikco: Hey you cheated - your flights were inter-connecting! ;) See the new screenshot at the 1st post.

Added a button to show inter-connecting flights using the same operator.

Added 14,306 more flights

Added 19 more operators

Added 208 more airports

Added 7 more countries

I want to do both a Linux and a Mac version.

I'll download a new release of Linux today and have a go, what version of Linux do you recommend for PureBasic?

I personally would recommend OpenSUSE (link inside) with KDE as desktop envionment.
It's one of the most widespread distros in Europe.
