Google 'dreamhost sucks' ....

And be afraid :) No, really, are they any good? Or do you know of a similar solid host worth moving to?

I have a site hosted there.. generally no major issues though we've had at least one situation where the support was not as responsive as we'd like (took several hours to respond to an unplanned outage) and I've had the occassional brief lack of mail server response - not sure why. The main attraction at the time was they seemed to have the best price/bandwidth ratio. They seem very good in this regard and are generous on the amount and frequency of bandwidth/space upgrades.

What I dont like is its email support is slow and the process during signup is so slow even if you use credit card (4 days for me). They need rubbing of credit card and it took days to validate.
Well, I can say is its worth it. ;)

Well it seems ok enough, but 230 000 hits for a 'dreamhost sucks' is bad isn't it? I found this somewhere:
Now, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, as Carl Sagan said. The lack of Google results for your
potential host may not be an indication of anything. But a multitude of “[your host] sucks” results should be
a red flag.
I also found they had a Better Business Bureu rating of F (worst), C (average) now. The comments bade by BBB when they
received the F word was:
We strongly question the company?s reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints,
their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law?s licensing or registration requirements, their
complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company?s industry is known for its fraudulent business practices.
Urk, better run for th hills.. :)

They are hosting more than 380,000 sites and I think thats big. The rating posted is very old (2001). You cant even see sites comparing dreamhost to other hosting sites because of huge difference in feature and cost.

I just paid $22.80 for (1 year) using promo code HAPPY97
Others cant beat that :D
