IMAP e-mail client, know of any good ones?

After years of using POP3 for e-mail and being rather happy with it.

Digital River's standard is to use Outlook and IMAP for e-mail and I find I rather like the idea of having my e-mail both local and on-line, so...

I have decided to switch to IMAP but don't want to use Outlook for my personal e-mail since it is way over-kill. I'd consider going back to Outlook Express since I used it for years before switching to The Bat! but I've heard that its primarily a POP3 e-mail client and not well suited to IMAP.

I've been using The Bat! for my e-mail and for POP3 it seems to work pretty well, however I heard about lots of problems with its IMAP capabilities.

So... can anyone recomend a good IMAP capable e-mail client? Does not have to be free, if its good enough, I'm willing to buy a license for it.

I use Pegasus, but haven't used its IMAP capabilities in a long time. But, when I did use IMAP, I can't remember having any issues.

I have a license for The Bat which is an awesome email client. What this program doesn't have, you problably don't need

As I said in my post, I am currently using The Bat, but I've heard of lots of problems with its IMAP capabilities, and after a brief attempt at setting it up that way and running into "problems" I tend to agree with the reports that The Bat's IMAP is flawed.

Contrary to my belief, I've been told that Outlook Express is IMAP capable and very good at it too. Since I've used Outlook Express for years and only switched to The Bat to match what Chad at Silicon Realms was using when I started working with him, I'll most likely go back to Outlook Express.

The challenge will be moving my e-mail database from The Bat to Outlook Express.

No problem, if you're at all like me, if that's all you missed you're doing good!

I do agree The Bat is a great e-mail program, I just wish its IMAP abilities were as good as the rest of the program...

I've only used it's POP features so far.
The reason I purchased The Bat was because of it's template features. Oh and the contact and filtering features. That's what amazed me.

That's all I've used so far too, I tried setting it up for IMAP but it just didn't work out too well...

Yeah, it (The Bat) has some pretty amazing filtering capabilities and its built-in address book is quite good too.

My only big complaint with Outlook Express is that it stores all the account properties and filters in the registry instead of in configuration files like The Bat does...

Dunno about the imap capabilities, but since i switched to Thunderbird i never went back

The search bar in the top is simply amazingly good, and the filters do what i need(like if i rename a folder, the filters gets updated automatically etc etc)

To use it in english just delete the Chinese.lgb file in it's home directory!

Lol i installed it only once.... Like 3 years ago, and i never installed it again...
I just make a plain zip for backup, and restore it to it's folder after formating windows ^^

My gmail HD account has 3gb of downloaded emails... And this baby handles like if it was 3k...

It also has a builtin spam filter 0_o , that works!!!

In 3 years, 0 problems...

Did i say it is **FREE** !!!

Hmm....

Well either I'm doing something wrong I don't fully understand IMAP.

I set up an IMAP account in both The Bat and Outlook Express, then tried to create some folders.

In both programs, if I tried to create the folder outside the Inbox folder as I always did using POP3, I'd get an error that the server couldn't create the folder. But if I create the folder inside the Inbox folder, it works. Seems kind of strange to me to have to put everything inside the Inbox folder.

Since both programs are behaving the same, maybe The Bat's IMAP does work and I can keep using it since I like it better than Outlook Express. It will also save me from having to move my e-mail from The Bat to Outlook Express which is turning out to be a major challenge.

I just need to find some information on using IMAP so I can know if I'm doing it right.

It could also be that I'm confusing IMAP and MAPI, I had thought Digital River was using IMAP, but I now know that they are using Exchange Server and MAPI...

I found out why only putting folders in the Inbox works.

RunBox has the rather strange requirement that you use Inbox as the root IMAP folder. I have to wonder why they would do that.

I think I may hold off on switching to IMAP until I can find a service that doesn't have any strange requirements like that.
