Minimum Specs Information for your games

Post by Kale »

This data has been compiled by Valve using over 700,000 unique gamer's PCs. It could be useful for you when you develop a game. It shows what system specs average gamers use.

You have to remember these are not very real stats, because VALVE gathers this from HL2 gamers...

So these results do not surprise me much.

I thought that gamers had much better computers. Can HL2 run on a Geforce FX5200??

:?: Please explain what you mean by these not being real stats?

These stats are collected from people who play all of the games available on Steam, not just HL2.

HL2 can run on any graphics board, the engine adapts to it!!!

Simply because you're not analysing a random market, but a very specific market of 3d gamers ....

I don't think this market is that specific, after all this is a cross section of gamers playing all of Steam delivered games not just HL2. I think that this is a good cross section of gamers in general, from all walks of life and with quite diverse computer specs. These stats show quite clearly (IMO) the average gaming system and as Bonne_den_kule pointed out, it is not as advanced as you might expect.

Show me a better guide.

Yes, but that's not to be considered a true scientific study for general gaming.
Even the web page title is called "Valve Survey Summary", not "General Gaming
Study".

Well, no guide is better than a skewed guide. ;)
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

dunno but it looks to me like the info is pretty much a slice of the world, hl2 is quite a generic program, it's not cutting edge anymore these days, steam / source runs on most modern hardware, total numbers are high enough to be representative

the one group you are missing are casual gamers on lower hardware spec machines, dunno where to get that info
( PB6.00 LTS Win11 x64 Asrock AB350 Pro4 Ryzen 5 3600 32GB GTX1060 6GB - upgrade incoming...)
