Free imaging software for Windows

Post by netmaestro »

I have a client who doesn't want to shell out for Photoshop and wants to find a free alternative. What's the best advice I can pass on to him?

GIMP is an alternative, although *some* people are turnt off by the S&M connotations of it's name...

Tell him to install Linux and use Krita :P
But I would use GIMP if it has to be for Window$ although it's a little harder to use..

Interesting, looks good, but I found this tutorial screenshot of a supposed water reflection leaves something to be desired, from a physics/scientific viewpoint... ;)

What about OpenOffice Draw?
I've not tested it. Isn't it useful?

I really can recommend Xara Xtreme.
It's free for Linux and BSD and is only 62€/$79 for the Windows version.

Well, it's more like a vector type drawing program. Usefull for simple things but that's it.

You're mixing up Vektorgrafics and BMP-grafic Programs....

But, for Vektordrawings: I would also recommend Xara on Linux and Inkscape one Windows
For Images: GIMP, there is nothing else. GIMP covers all the requirements. (Only CMYK-support is missing)
cheers,

On Windows, Xara Xtreme is also a pixel based program . This part just hasn't been ported yet.

Well, I said vector style drawing program. Not vector program. Reason for that is the way the drawing tools work. Quite different then Paint.
