Yes I know that. But it's not ment to be used a a drivers navigation unit. The idea is to hopefully sell the unit to big companies like police, insurance and rescue services. Probably said too much already, but hey

Sounds to me a "black box" for a car!! Which is done allready here in the netherlands they are doing tests whit those black boxes. So if it is that sorry is been done allready.
By the way why do not use this instead of an epia board (which are very good by the way i use 2 boards at the moment).

In a way, yes it is sort of a blackbox. But then again, it's going to be alot more then that. I know about blackboxes in cars thare are already on the market. I drive a cab here, a Volvo V70 AWD and it has all the gear and kit you can cram into a car these days. And it has GPS system for use with cabs for security and such. But it lacks a few things, that's where I come in. But I don't want to go into details of my plans on taking this further.

Thanks Jan for this info - these little things look smaller than the EPIA Nano, and much cheaper (though much less MHz but for some apps, it would be ok). I agree EPIA boards are quite good, but they aren't necessarily cheap but have good capabilities.

Not just executive cars, here in the US many cars come with GPS navigation built in. And then there's Magellan, a GPS navigation system that you can add to a car that doesn't already have it.

Sounds like something like Lo-Jack, Lo-Jack is a device that helps police find a stolen car by sending out a signal that can be tracked. Don't know if Lo-Jack uses GPS though.
One company makes a small device that does use GPS that you can attach to your kid's clothing or backpack so you can keep track of where they are.

Hi GeoTrail, I was just reading about this USB temperature/humidity sensor & thought of you, maybe it's of interest (though it's a little bit expensive, it might be useful for prototyping) http://www.dlpdesign.com/usb/th1.shtml [edit: here's a cheaper module - multi-channel temp sensor interface board http://www.dlpdesign.com/usb/temp.shtml - comes with one temp sensor, supports 3 max].
That looks really cool. And it has an alarm feature too. Damn, this seems perfect for my project. Might save me a ton of work.

Theres this lil x86 AMD based PC Systems with 12v input - i have used one of theese to build my own car A/V Box with motiondetection for a few goodies ^^
Anyway PB Linux ( Especially with a realtime Linux when sensors involoved ) runs fine with it.
