PB speed on WinXP versus Win98SE

But, this isn't about the graphics chip. After all, both OS use the same graphic chip. And it isn't the graphics chip in a specific machine. I've tested on many systems now with varying chipsets. All XP machines exhibit the same symptoms.

Let's just blame XP and M$.

Well but Fred is right, opening windows and gadgets hidden speeds things up realy hard, it's the way any bigger aplication does it.
