I might be getting Delphi Professional.

Delphi 2006 Professional is a complete environment for the visual design, compilation, and debugging of Windows applications. Programs can be targeted for Win32 and Microsoft .NET applications using a common source code base. The Professional edition also provides basic database connectivity and select ECO framework features.

I use the explorer edition of delphi win32. it's freeware, for personal and commercial use.

Yeah, that would be for the full Architect Version. But the Professional
Version is $1000. I'm currently looking at:

I'm willing to spend $600. The only differences between these versions
is the amount of controls they come with. But it still the same compilers.

why do not first take a look at the explorer-editions from Borland?

I looked at these (specifically Delphi), but then I saw:

If you download the ISO version, and burn it to a disk, you will not need to download those other files, as they are included in the ISO.

That said, I do not necessarily endorse using anything .NET based.

Yeah, not interested in .NET, or C# .. only:

Delphi & C++ (win32).

I guess I can look at other options, I'm not opposed to it. But I assure
you (even not having touched the explorer version) that the professional
version IDE is going to be much smoother.

The point was the IDE itself requires .NET to run.

Ah yes, I have 1.1 and 2.0 installed. Just don't plan to develop in it
unless I need to. I'm not unfamiliar with it. I had VB 6 Enterprise Edition,
all the bells and whistles. That's the version just before VB .NET came
out. Let's just say, when it did.. VB6 got sent out on ebay..

A few questions on turboexplorer.

1: Has anybody used this and is it any good?

2: For the version for standard (native) windows, do you still need the net framework (1.1) for this? That is, does the development environment require .net even though it writes for standard windows?

(I started a software house a while back. Couldn't get multiple seat licence for PureBasic so went with Visual Studio. But I would prefer to have something else there and maybe this is the go for the software house - personally I'll stick with PureBasic.)

Yes, the IDE requires .NET even though it compiles EXEs that do NOT use .NET

If you download the ISO version, it includes .NET an the other runtimes the IDE requires. I would think the setup for .NET would only update whatever is outdated on your system.

Even though he deleted his post (Yeah, I saw it), I do agree with "The Deleter" that we should stop discussing Delphi on Fred's boards.
