Good free font for coding?

I use Bitstream Vera Sans Mono (9pt):

I find for me personally it's the most professional looking and nicest to read of all the monospaced fonts. It also does a good job of differentiating all of the characters at small point sizes.

Bitstream Vera Sans Mono really is a great monospaced font well suited for coding...highly recommended.

the best website i know is 'proggy programming fonts' :

on this site you will find the 'Dina' font which is my prefered one, and the one i use in the PureBasic IDE or jaPBe.

Interesting topic! Maybe this is system-dependent, but despite fiddling with font rendering properties, I found the bitstream font a little 'fuzzy' compared to the dina font (though I also see the dina is a bitmap font).

Yip. Same thing on my computer. The bitstream font looks a bit fuzzy on my screen.. (Samsung tft 17" DVI)

It may make a difference whether you're using lcd or crt, not sure. The Bitstream font looks absolutely perfect here.

p.s. Did this get moved or am I slowly losing my grip on reality? I could have sworn I posted it in Offtopic.

If you use an LCD wether its a laptop or flatpanel. You should get
ClearType from MS. It's free.

I don't like cleartype because I can see the red/blue shadows on the edges of the letters. I guess my up-close vision is better than most.

Though my distance vision sucks...

I just tried this one, thanks, I like it. I usually use Verdana for
everything.

This is a nice change.

Yes, good point, cleartype could be making the difference. I always use it and I forgot what a difference it makes:

Well that's wierd. That's exactly what ClearType allows you to do, is hide
those edges.
