for anyone else out there that has a Doberman, or a nutjob dog that thinks shiny DVDs are candy, this is an AMAZING tool to backup your DVDs. Also, having kids with dirty, grubby, sticky hands can be a problem too.
I backup ALL my DVDs, and put the originals inside a safe that me and my wife own.
Honestly, i dont care what Sony or any other company says i can or cant do with movies i legally bought. maybe they can come to my house and watch the Dobermans 24/7, or they can come to your house and babysit your kids.
you need DVDshrink and DVDdecryptor too, ALL ARE FREE.
this tools will take a DVD, and back it up for you in a step by step wizard.
i bought silent hill on wednesday, and sure enough, one of the dobermans was eyeing the case and sniffing. i will definitely pay for my movies, but i refuse to let Sony deny me the common sense to backup a quality movie because **** happens.

Please! Remove those links from this area.
Because this Forum is hosted in France where (beside the us and germany etc.) existing laws do prohibit bypassing a digital copyprotection on original DVDs.
Now the very sad thing: If you do provide links on your webpage to backupsystems or backupsoftare which actually do bypass such a digital protection you make yourself responsable.
And as the responsable of this webpage is Fred he could get into a lot of trouble!
You mention "DVDdecryptor" and you do link to a page where a direct link to "DVDdecryptor" is given and DVDdecryptor in such countries where those laws do exist is illegal.
If you dont beleive me, then do search in the www as the french government signed such law some month ago which also affects links to i.E. VideoLan binaries as it gots de-CSS protection routines.

i am in the US, and tools like that are by no means illegal to have. so if i send you the links, it will be in a form of private communication.
what is up with the french gov't? i thought the US gov't was in the pocket of big corporations pretty badfly, but to prosecute someone just because they tell people where links are to backup DVDs?

I use SmartRipper - which is great. and free...
Anyway, in the US you are allowed to make one copy of any DVD/Video you legally own. I think its called the "I-cant-control-my-doberman" law.
What if he put the links in an <IFRAME> which points to a server in the US, would that be legal? just wondering...

just wondering...Well no, it would contain a "link/frame" to another site that contains a link to the material. It's a link to a link to a link to a link etc... when does it become illegal?
