Intel Extreme Graphics

Post by mskuma »

In a nutshell, if you're using an Intel 845 series motherboard, have you found any problems using its built-in video graphics (called 'Intel Extreme Graphics') with your PB apps?

I'm building a cheap PC (using recycled parts) for my kids to run some simple PB apps. These PB apps use Sprite3D for buttons (PNGs as alpha-blended sprite textures), and I've found on some older PCs/video cards, these graphics just don't appear or appear corrupted. I think this might be due to a driver or hardware issue, or maybe its due to 'cheating' by not using non-square (or not using power-of-2) texture images, but most recent video cards can displays these images ok. Maybe I should just convert these buttons to 256 colour transparent sprites but I've even found some older graphics cards have trouble displaying these too..

Anyway I've seen some cheap older Intel motherboards (like D845G series, e.g. D845GVFN) on ebay that have built-in video (called Intel Extreme Graphics). So I'm wondering if anyone here is using these motherboards and finds them ok for Sprite3D work (particularly the way I'm using - non-square/power-of-2 alphablended buttons)?

Alternatively can anyone suggest an inexpensive but reasonably-good performance motherboard (ideally P4 or Celeron D class with built-in graphics) that works ok for Sprite3D work? Thanks.

I used to have one, and apart from the performance being ho-hum it was very reliable with PB and GameMaker.
