i have a line in a prog like this:

RunProgram("c:\vag2vb.exe",Chr(32)+f$+Chr(32)+destinationfilename$,1)

if the vag2vb.exe is run from dos (not purebasic) I can add " > c:\vbout.txt" and the text vag2vb displays when run is then written to a file called vbout.txt in c:\

if I change my line in myprogram to:

RunProgram("c:\vag2vb.exe",Chr(32)+f$+Chr(32)+destinationfilename$+Chr(32)+" > c:\vbout.txt",1)

it doesn't work. is the " > c:\vbout.txt" thing that works in dos not compatible with purebasic? is there a way to take the text output from the vag2vb program and write it to either a text file or a string?

thanks!

Yep! Rings way is fine but uses too much source code for my liking.

I suggest you to take a look at the Execute() function of the CGI library, available at Pauls' site:
