PureBasic was posted to warez newsgroups within days of Fred having released it. Several (not sure if all) of the "interim" PB 4 betas were also posted during the development cycle.

Copies of WinXP (or just about ANY commercial software) find their way to the newsgroups pretty quickly. Not too many folks have found a way to stop it. The "pirates" will find a way no matter what. Look at newsleecher. The author spends more time attempting to thwart the pirates than he does developing the product (that's not really an exaggeration). He has made it a little harder on them, but they seem to like that, since newsleecher is one of the most available products via warez.

As developers, we may not like it, but it's a reality we face. Guess you know you've "arrived" when you see your product posted on alt.binaries.warez :D

I hate all this crack_world stuff.

In this state of my own experience, i can tell you that cracks DO hurt your sales.

In the past i used to belived that people that dld cracks are not buyers. But after doing a lot of experiments, i found that when you stop cracks for some time your sales grows inmediatly.

At this moment, what im doing is that the installer download the executable from my site, and i change that executable 2 times a week (same version) to make that the keygens and that stuff get outdated and this usually works and sales grows.

Its NOT perfect, but my sales grows by 2 (i double sales) after i start doing this 2 months ago with no new releases and no new ads or nothing else that could be the cause of sales growing.

If one week im lazy and don't do the updates, sales go down.

*Im not trying to convince nobody about nothing, just sharing my own experience.

Yes, it's really a shame that you have to spend your time/effort attempting to thwart the pirates instead of developing the product - or maybe even relaxing and enjoying life :)

Small consolation, but at least when we get "robbed", it's not by someone holding a gun in our face.

Well in the case of PB.. while i agree its a shame stuff gets cracked but it has alos the funny side for example sooner or later people will register on theese Boards ( or just lurk around ). Compare reg users with registered PB Copies could give a hint ...

However that there ARE cracks around prooves just one thing .. PB IS good!
Also besides the fact that Fred does this for a living.. he also renewed ( in a better way i think - and which i could imagine was also one of his goals ) the spirit of Blitz back then. The easyness to code and the Comunity to do great things with a great tool!

And well unless you re a 16 yr old cracker-kiddie who wirtes again lil demos and or cracks troyans or otehr BS ( demos excluded from bull .. ) ... you sooner or later gonna donate or buy a legal version of PB just because its good and you hope it will be further developped - which only will happen if Fred can live from it.

Point...

On of the ideas I provided fred concerning this, back when the first black copies thread was created, was to have two public forums on this board. One for annoucements, and the other for pre-purchase questions.

All the rest of the forums, only registered users have access to. Therefore, if the criminals want help, they need to pay for the product.

nah

one of the reasons i liked purebasic so much is the incredible forums

how can a potential buyer see how good this thing is if he / she cannot see the forums? the website is not good enough to sell the product, but the forum just might!

I don't think so, just imagine it. If you weren't a registred user, what was the first thing you would do? I bet searching for a crack for it (And i am not talking about you personally here, i'm talking about anybody). I guess it's time to stop running away from the problems and to try and fix them. The cracks exist anyway, with or without my post here. But maybe somebody can do something about them!

Hi Fred,

As you can check easily, i´m a registered user but answering your question for links of Pirated PureBasic Links, here goes one:
[edit]Please do not post links here.[/edit]

And it´s working last time i check.
The software is also working, without limitations.

To bad to the software. :(

Here goes the NFO file from Arcade Group.

PureBasic is a programming language based on established BASIC rules. The
key features of PureBasic are portability (Windows, AmigaOS and Linux are
currently fully supported), the production of very fast and highly
optimized executables and, of course, the very simple BASIC syntax.
PureBasic has been created for the beginner and expert alike. We have put
a lot of effort into its realization to produce a fast, reliable and
system friendly language.

In spite of its beginner-friendly syntax, the possibilities are endless
with PureBasic's advanced features such as pointers, structures,
procedures, dynamically linked lists and much more. Experienced coders
will have no problem gaining access to any of the legal OS structures or
API objects and PureBasic even allows inline ASM.

The main features of PureBasic

- Huge set of internal commands (800+) to quickly and easily build any
application or game

- All BASIC keywords are supported

- Very fast compiler which creates highly optimized executables

- No external DLLs, runtime interpreter or anything else required when
creating executables

- Procedure support for structured programming with local and global
variables

- Access to full OS API for advanced programmers

- Easy but very fast 2D game support trough dedicated libraries
(DirectX, SDL, ...)

- Easy and high quality 3D support based on OGRE

- Optimal use of the available hardware by using highly optimized
(assembly) commands

- Source code is portable between AmigaOS, Windows, MacOS X and Linux,
for games and applications

- Dedicated editor and development environment

- Integrated debugger to easily trace programming bugs.

Once again, just remember that i´m not part of ARCADE Group, or cracked PureBasic.

I´m a registered user just trying to help to stop this.

NOTE: Fred, if it helps you i can send the Setup.exe file for you to check it.
Just let me now, and tell me where to send it.

@Fred, I think the only way to stop this is to create a small server and modify PureBasic a bit to support serial-based registration. After somebody executes PureBasic, it authenticates the user data with the server and if it is wrong or the guy used a keygen, etc., get the ip and ban it (or anything else).
