Porn showing up instead of the forums?

Post by Hydrate »

I was browsing today to find that the forums were coming up with errors of not being able to connect, i clicked on the coding questions section to end up with a pornographic image on my screen, which i did not apreciate as my 10 year old sister was watching at the time, if the admins would like a screenshot, be my guest, but im not going to post it here. The point is, whats going on?

Most likely your computer got infected with something and now links are being redirected on you.

Use a program like "HiJackThis" to see what is loaded on startup and see if your system has been hijacked ;)

I thought so, i double checked with adaware, spybot s&d, and avg when i saw it, nothing, and its only happening on this site, i havent seen it happen on any other, and im browsing at least 13, so if it is a virus, its targeted at the purebasic fourms, and firefox, which is very specific, someone would have to be making a specific attack to me in reality. It also would not explain the internal server errors i keep getting from the forums.

I couldn't reach the forums at all for 7 hours this morning, but people in Europe had no problem.

dracflamloc - Possibly, but i get similar internal server errors through a proxy, and netmaestro, i live in the UK, ive never had this problem before, and im only getting it from the pb website, sounds like an incredibly specific and aimed attact if someone else is doing this, i highly doubt that.

It has to be and that could happen with ANYONE.

I have read that, they didnt seem to get to the bottom of it, the forums are working fine now, was the conclusion that it was an issue with the site?

More likely just a DNS redirection issue by hackers.... nothing anyone to do with the forums could have prevented....

I'm quite sure it's a server problem and that for some reason the server's internal caching becomes messed up so it sends pictures that are hosted on other sites but on the same server.

Edit: Not if this was continent-specific.

I'm not sure if this is related or not.
But today I saw Gnozal's avatar image being a animate pron image.
Moments later though it was back to the spinning art image.

His avatar is hosted on http://people.freenet.de/gnozal1/avatar.gif though.

Maybe the server where our board is running on is shared with a porn site and that one 'bleeds' through to our board?

I belive this has hapend before some months ago...

Just my 2 cents

ha, zonealarm considers freenet.de a 'bad' site (spyware / tracker) and blocks any images from there :-)
