Hey Everyone,

I downloaded the updated libs from the update site, but I'm not quite sure what to do next. Do I just copy them to the PureLibraries directory or is there another step that has to be done? I tried just renaming the .txt files, but the IDE gave me an error after I started it. Something about duplicate functions.

Thanks,
Tron

Why do you save the Libraries as .TXT ??
Just select "All Files", add a point to
the name ("SPRITE.") and save it.
This way its saved without extension
and you copy the updated Libs to your
PureLibraries folder.
(Make a backup of the old Libs before)

When you save it as .txt, open a console
and rename the saved files.
(on Console write: help ren)

Hey Danilo... what browser are you using?
I use IE6 in Win2K and it automatically saves these library files at TXT files, regardless of how hard I try to save it with no extension. (so it's not really a matter of "learning to use your internet program"... and yes, I also tried using the "." after the name and still I get TXT extension)

I must ALWAYS rename the saved TXT file to a file with no extension using Windows Explorer before I can dump them into the PureLibraries folder.

Because that's the only way IE6 will save them, no matter what you do...

Because file extensions are set so when you download no extension files it may occur that IE proposes to save it as .txt.

It is not really a bug but maybe you can find files preferences in your MS file Explorer to make it in another way.

Anyway I use to rename files as it should when downloads do not work as expected.

As far as I understood, you could put the libs in the right folder with .txt extensions as well. The issue would be that if you do not delete the former version of each you will get errors because of duplicate definitions.

I just tried it with v3.20 and you're right! But there *was* a version of
PureBasic that *didn't* allow it, because I tried it in the past and it failed.

IE6 and Win2k/SP2 here too :)

You have to choose "Save as type: | ALL FILES |" in the
ComboBox on the bottom of the file-dialog.
In this ComboBox are 2 entries:
1.) TXT Documents (default selected)
2.) ALL FILES

Thats how it works.

You think we haven't tried that already?
Selecting "All files" still saves as TXT.
I can provide screenshots as proof, if needed.

PB forum is the only one where to discuss after stressing of software designing ... isn't it !

So I confirm that I have this *.txt issue with IE, that I could not find a solution to not have it and as I have a rather large experience of things I decided just to rename files by hand or separate procedure depending on the weather but this is a well known problem. That's it.

I suppose it can be either a file Explorer or Internet Explorer parameter to change but it is maybe quicker to correct file names by hand rather than to search the parameter or register to change.

When I go to:

and make a LeftMouseClick I got the files as
Sprite.txt

I tried different ways.
IE -> files -> save as...
here you can only save the 'http://www.purebasic.com/update/' site as...

Next step:
Mouse cursor over the Sprite Lib -> Right Mouse Click -> Save target as... -> Choose as Type 'All Files' -> delete '.txt', so you have only 'Sprite' left -> and I got 'Sprite..txt'

My IE version 5.5 Sp2.

The first way is what I do everytime.
After downloading it on MyUpdateDir I rename the file and copy it to the designated PureBasic Directory (overwrite the old one - it's not bad to save the old lib first...)

Ditch IE and use Netscape6.2.3 or later  It all works very well, never had any problem with netscape assigning unnecessary extensions to files!

Hello everyone.

I'm rather new to Pure Basic. But I amfamiliar with windows. If you wish to save a file without an extension added to it, just surround the name with quotes.
