contest: make a draw-o-presenter with purebasic!

Post by spot »

the first annual draw-o-presenter contest
(by nothing from outer space, http://www.nothing.ch)

Image

anonymous artists have so far created more than 1500 drawings with draw-o-matic. the concept of draw-o-matic enables artistic manifestation by anyone, anywhere on the planet.

and the entire stock of draw-o-matic pictures can be viewed by anyone anytime, too. the xml-feed of draw-o-matic is a public data source, a public domain art gallery.

the xml-feed needs an application written for example in purebasic to present the images – a draw-o-presenter. nothing offers a prize for the best draw-o-presenter. originality and fun are the criteria for winning this contest. screensavers or any kind of standalone application are accepted.

go and have a look at http://www.drawonet.com. also don't miss the contest page on http://www.drawonet.com/contest.

p.s.: i hope i'm allowed to post this entry here. if not, i'll move it to "off topic" as it's not 100% purebasic related.

spot,

I like your draw-o-matic site! Work was boring this afternoon, so I threw together a very simple draw-o-presenter application.
There are undoubtedly lots and lots of improvements that can be made, but it's not bad for about 2 hours work.

I used my favorite XML parser from Don Dickinson, El Choni's URLToFile code, and Paul's PureVisionXP for the UI (admittedly, not much to look at).
I don't have a place where I can easily post the source, but I'd be happy to send you the executable program.
It's only 139KB, including the PNG decoder and the XML parser DLL - I love PB! :D

Send me your e-mail address if you're interested.

Regards,
Eric
