Can anyone help with this?

Here's the issue. I have an ATI 9250 video card which works perfect. I was given a Sapphire ATI 9600 card by a friend who upgraded his card, he owed me a couple favors, etc. and was kind enough to offer me his old card. So I installed it in my system and downloaded the latest version of the driver from driverheaven.net, I think it's 6.4.something. I used the computer for hours with everything working perfectly and I assumed I had no problems. But then I watched a video on CNN.com and found that the colors were totally screwed up and unwatchable. I thought it was their fault but then it occurred to me that I should check a video using media player, and when I did that I got the same problem. Only on videos. Nowhere else. Games, 3d screensavers etc. all showed perfect. I found I could correct the video problem by setting my hardware acceleration down in Windows, but that disabled hardware acceleration for games, screensavers, etc. and made them not work. So that's no solution. Does anyone know how I can overcome this problem so I can use this card? Or is there nothing I can do? Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Sounds like maybe the codecs are screwed.

Well, they're fine with the 9250 card. They worked before I switched cards and they worked after I switched back. So I'm stumped. I'm hoping there's just something somewhere that I can configure or tweak. I reinstalled the media player, that didn't help.

This could be a waste of time but I use ffdshow maybe that may resolve the problem you are having...

you may have to uninstall the codec stuff first though...

p.s. it may not be a codec thing at all it maybe that the graphics drivers need updating...

Thanks for all replies. I finally solved the problem by trying successively older drivers for the card until I hit one that didn't behave that way. It was just over a year old. It was such an odd little quirk I figured it had to be related to the driver.

It can also be something conflicting with that newer driver instead of teh driver itself being the problem. You may want to try uninstalling any codec packs you have.
